On July 10th, Van Hau posted photos of himself training with a ball on social media and received nearly 4,000 interactions.
Hanoi Police FC (CAHN) head coach Alexandre Polking liked the post, while many of Van Hau's national team colleagues also commented, wishing him a speedy return to playing.
Van Hau has been away from top-level football for nearly two years due to an injury causing inflammation of the heel pad, which has lasted from September 2023 until now. During this time, Hau has undergone multiple surgeries, from Singapore to South Korea. His wife, Doan Hai My, has usually been by his side.
The last time Hau had to undergo surgery was earlier this year. He had to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) with his left leg in a cast. Despite many negative comments online, Van Hau remains determined to train and maintain an optimistic spirit. His current club, Hanoi Police, recently extended his contract for another two years.
Persistent injuries have been a source of bad luck for Van Hau for a long time. Since his unsuccessful stint in the Netherlands in 2019, Van Hau has repeatedly suffered knee injuries, interrupting his professional playing career.
Previously, Hau was the number one hope for Hanoi FC and the Vietnamese national team at left-back. He has the ability to balance attacking and defending. His tall stature (1.86m) also allows the player born in 1999 to play as a central defender when needed.
Nearly two years without Van Hau, the Vietnamese national team has experienced many ups and downs, failing to advance beyond the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
If his recovery progresses well, Van Hau may soon have the opportunity to return to the field to play for Hanoi Police FC.
