High quality rice area

The rice area along the La Nga River stretches from Tanh Linh commune through Dong Kho, Nam Thanh to Duc Linh, Hoai Duc with about 25,000 hectares.

This is considered the province’s rice granary because it is an area with a large rice area and high yield and quality. Rice in this area is produced from 3 crops or more.

Mr. Trinh Cong Tu - an officer of the Economic Department of Dong Kho commune said: The total annual rice production area of ​​Dong Kho commune is about 7,300 hectares; of which, the high-quality rice area is about 2,400 hectares. This summer-autumn crop alone, Dong Kho planted about 2,500 hectares, of which, the area of ​​sticky rice and high-quality rice ST25 is about 100 hectares.

Currently, in the commune, Duc Lan Agricultural Service Cooperative mainly produces and processes ST25 rice according to organic processes, with an annual area of ​​about 40 hectares/3 crops, with 2 products recognized as 4 stars: Duc Lan - ST25 rice and Duc Lan - ST 25 brown rice.

Besides, there are also Nong Lam Giang Cooperative and Dong Kho Cooperative Group producing according to the process of linking rice seed production and purchasing OM 5451 rice seed products with Loc Troi Group Joint Stock Company.

The annual area is about 85 hectares, of which, Nong Lam Giang Cooperative and associated production cooperatives are about 63 hectares and the company produces 22 hectares, of which 12 hectares are used to propagate super-standard rice varieties to produce standard rice varieties. In addition, farmers in the commune also produce about 55 hectares of certified rice for seed rice.

Affirming the position of key rice growing areas

From Dong Kho, I followed the inter-commune roads of Nam Thanh, Duc Linh, Hoai Duc, and saw the high-quality rice fields and exported sticky rice. Looking at hundreds of hectares of sticky rice in Duc Linh area that were ready to be harvested, I suddenly remembered 2017, when Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Director of Cong Thanh Agricultural Cooperative brought IR4625 sticky rice variety from the West to grow on the Hoai Duc fields.

The first year, farmers were invited to cooperate to have enough quantity to sign contracts to supply to export partners, but no one was interested because they were not familiar with farming practices. However, when the harvest season came, the ripe sticky rice flowers with heavy grains spread their fragrance throughout the area, making farmers curious to gather to watch the harvest.

When they saw that they could buy on the spot in the fields, plus that growing sticky rice was more profitable than regular rice, and that they were provided with standard seeds and had their products consumed at market prices, hundreds of farmers voluntarily registered with Cong Thanh Agricultural Cooperative to do so.

Up to now, in Nam Thanh, Duc Linh, Hoai Duc fields, there are nearly 500 hectares of sticky rice for export.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia said: Currently, people in the region are covering the area of ​​high-quality rice and sticky rice. The cooperative annually supplies high-quality rice seeds OM18 and sticky rice IR4625, and guarantees products for people to export. The cooperative has signed contracts with over 300 households to produce 250 hectares of sticky rice and 300 hectares of OM18 rice to supply the market and export to countries such as Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, India, etc.

Because of income, farmers apply scientific and technical advances in care, invest in high-tech equipment to ensure health during cultivation, the pinnacle of which is the introduction of drones into rice production.

On the other hand, through the support of the government, farmers have linked up with scientists to have good sources of seeds, coordinated with businesses to take care of product output... The association of 5 houses in production has created a high-tech revolution for farmers from the key rice granary of Lam Dong province with bumper harvests.
