Those melodies performed by members of the “Then singing – Tinh lute” model in village 10 are their way of preserving the identity of the Tay ethnic group in Ea Kar land.
In traditional costume, holding and carefully holding the Tinh lute, Mr. Hoang Van Khao (born in 1966, Tay ethnic group, model member) shared that he was born and raised in Cao Bang province. In 1989, he brought his wife and children to village 10, Cu Prong commune to start a business. In his free time, he hums the smooth Then lyrics to ease his homesickness. "Then lyrics and Tinh lute have strong vitality, associated with the spiritual life of our Tay community," Mr. Khao expressed.

Having finished speaking, Mr. Khao excitedly played the guitar and sang: “… The road back to our hometown is far away/ Crossing ten mountains and nine rivers, my dear/ There are peach blossoms in full bloom, there are ripe plums/ Shining with fragrant honey/ The whole village lives amidst the clouds…”.
For Mr. Khao, then singing and tinh lute are a part of the soul and emotions, carrying the aspiration for a prosperous and happy life of the people, passed down from generation to generation.
According to Ms. Thuc Thi Lieu, Deputy Head of the “Then Singing – Tinh Lute” Model in Village 10, the villagers are mainly Tay ethnic people, who migrated from the northern provinces. Living in their second homeland, the Then melodies and Tinh Lute still resound from the houses in the evening, erasing the hardships and fatigue after a long day of working in the fields.
In order to create conditions for those who love Then singing and Tinh lute in the village to have a place for activities and entertainment, contributing to enriching the identity of the ethnic groups in Ea Kar district, in October 2020, the Women's Union of Cu Prong commune established the "Then singing - Tinh lute" model with 13 members who are Tay ethnic people (11 women, 2 men), the oldest member is 71 years old, the youngest is 51 years old. Although economic life is still difficult, the model has no teachers, and operating costs are limited, the members still arrange time to participate in full activities. They go online to watch videos teaching Then singing and Tinh lute playing and practice, those who know a lot teach those who know less, those who do not know, gradually they memorize many Then lyrics and play Tinh lute proficiently. The model's management board also relied on ancient Then melodies to create new lyrics praising love for nature, love between couples, husband and wife, and homeland scenery...

Ms. Ly Thi Lan, President of the Women's Union of Cu Prong Commune, said that the Union is very interested in models and clubs that preserve and conserve the cultural identities of ethnic groups living in the commune. The model of "Then singing - Tinh lute" in village 10, after a short time of establishment, has participated in performing at local cultural events. The commune has also built 2 more models of Then singing - Tinh lute in village 3 and village 15.
In order for the models to operate effectively, continue to expand and maintain activities in the community, in the coming time, the Commune Women's Union will actively coordinate with artisans and experienced people to open classes to teach Then singing and Tinh lute for female members, especially the younger generation. At the same time, create conditions to support members to participate in local cultural and artistic activities and movements, thereby contributing to enriching the cultural identity of ethnic groups in Ea Kar district.
