Khanh Yen commune has just released carp into the fields after harvesting the winter-spring rice crop.

This is the initial step to gradually introduce the formula of spring rice cultivation + autumn rice cultivation + winter carp farming into local production practices, contributing to increasing the production value per hectare to 150 million VND/hectare/year or more, while creating jobs for farmers during the off-season, increasing people's income, and gradually changing people's perceptions in transforming the structure of crops and livestock, and intensifying cropping.
The fingerlings were purchased from fish hatcheries in Lao Cai province, weighing between 1 and 1.5 kg each. The fish are released between late September and October (after the rice harvest), depending on whether the fish are planned to be harvested before or after the Lunar New Year. Fish were released into more than 10 hectares of rice paddies with controlled water inflow and outflow in the villages of Phat Cuom, Sung 1, Sung 2, Lang 1, Lang 2, Bo, Bo 1, Bo 2, Giang…
After three months of being raised in the rice paddies, the fish can be harvested. At harvest, the fish weigh 1.5 - 2 kg each. The quality of carp raised in these rice paddies is considered exceptional: crispy, firm, sweet, and fragrant... making them highly sought after in the market. Khanh Yen expects to harvest approximately 30 tons of commercially farmed carp this winter. The carp will be mainly consumed in the provincial market, with an expected selling price of 75,000 VND/kg or higher.
