Vinh Ancient Citadel is one of the remaining historical relics in Nghe An and is now a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors to the heroic "Red City".
When visiting Vinh City, in addition to tourist attractions such as Ho Chi Minh Square and the Quang Trung Temple, visitors should not miss a place that evokes a sense of nostalgia - the ancient citadel of Vinh.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, the ancient city gates stand silently, inviting visitors to explore the historical stories surrounding them.
Vinh City is known as the "Red City" because of its patriotic traditions, most notably the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement over 90 years ago.

In the memory of Mr. Le Quang Vinh (69 years old, residing in Block 1, Cua Nam Ward, Vinh City ), the ancient citadel was a resting place and a refuge from the heat for the locals because it was surrounded by many tall, shady trees. To this day, the ancient citadel remains a playground for children in the area on hot summer days.
The city gate system is adorned with many unique carved patterns.

The ancient citadel has six sides, is hexagonal in shape, approximately 4.42 meters high, and covers a total area of about 420,000 square meters . The moat surrounding the citadel is 28 meters wide and about 3.2 meters deep. People in the past often called the Vinh citadel the "turtle citadel" because when viewed from Quyết Mountain, it resembles a turtle.
At approximately 6 PM each day, the electric lights will be switched on at the three city gates.

In 1804, during the reign of King Gia Long, the ancient citadel of Vinh was built, located in Vinh Dien commune, Yen Truong district, Nghe An province (currently within Cua Nam ward, Vinh City). By 1831, during the reign of King Minh Mang, the citadel had been rebuilt on a large scale using sturdy honeycomb stone.
In 1998, Vinh Citadel was classified as a national historical site by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). In 2004, the People's Committee of Vinh City implemented a project to restore and renovate the three citadel gates. Vinh Citadel is where President Ho Chi Minh spoke to the people of Nghe An during his visits to his hometown in 1957 and 1961.
