“Over the weekend, many relatives also asked me about this story. I jokingly said to ask FIFA," the VFF leader replied to Dan Tri reporter about the information that the World Football Federation (FIFA) will invest 100 million USD for Vietnam to build a new stadium.
Information about FIFA investing 100 million USD for Vietnam to build a new stadium surfaced on social networks TikTok over the weekend. “FIFA agreed to disburse 120 million USD for Vietnam to build 2 stadiums with 50.000 and 100.000 seats.
This stadium is expected to start construction in March 3. 2024 million USD will be for site clearance, the remaining entire stadium construction process will be done by FIFA and FIFA's partners," the news was widely shared on Facebook. TikTok, however, it was denied by VFF leaders.
“FIFA's principle is very clear that any country's stadium must be built by that country. Even if a country wants to host the World Cup, it must invest in a quality stadium, there is no way FIFA will sponsor money to build a stadium.
It is true that FIFA provides support to member federations on a yearly basis. But those are key programs and goals that member federations submit to FIFA for review and approval. But the amount of support is only partial, not a large amount of money," the VFF leader added.
Currently, Vietnam's largest stadium is My Dinh National Stadium, with a capacity of 40.000 seats and an investment of 53 million USD.
