(Dan Tri) - Winning a close 15-14 victory over Spain in the final tie-break series, Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh helped Vietnam win the world three-band carom championship for the first time.
Tran Quyet Chien (ranked 2nd in the world) and Bao Phuong Vinh (ranked 8th in the world) faced Ruben Legazpi and Sergio Jimenez of Spain respectively in two men's singles final matches on the morning of March 25 in Germany.
Bao Phuong Vinh soon created an overwhelming position against Sergio Jimenez, continuously scoring points before bringing the match to halftime with the gap up to 29-11 with an 11-point baseline.

Phuong Vinh continued to overwhelm the opponent in the second half with many accurate shots and closed the match with a 2-40 victory after 22 shots.
Quyet Chien started like a dream when he launched an 11-point baseline right in the first baseline to soon lead 11-1. After that, Ruben Legazpi took advantage of Quyet Chien's many inaccurate shots to take a 27-14 lead.
The number one player in Vietnam played hard and equalized the score 34-34. However, Ruben Legazpi kept his focus to win the final 40-36 after 27 rounds.
This result caused the match to be decided by a 15-point men's double bowl match. The Spanish team started better to lead 4-0, the two Vietnamese players led 11-5. After that, Ruben Legazpi and Sergio Jimenez coordinated well to equalize 11-11.
The Vietnamese team continued to lead 14-12. When both Quyet Chien and Phuong Vinh missed the two shots that ended the match, the two Spanish players scored 2 points to equalize the score 2-14. In the decisive shot, Ruben Legazpi could not succeed.

Finally, in a bad position, Phuong Vinh launched a technical shot to score a breathtaking 15-14 victory, thereby helping the Vietnamese billiards team win this year's world team championship in Germany.
Tran Quyet Chien (40 years old) is the number two player in the world, a three-time World Cup champion. And Bao Phuong Vinh (29 years old) won the World Championship last year in her first tournament.
The world team championship of these two players helps Vietnamese billiards capture the entire set of world titles. Previously, 7 countries did the same thing: Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, Japan and South Korea.
3-band is the most popular type of carom in billiards, originating from France, currently appearing mainly in Europe, East Asia and some South American countries, but rarely seen in English-speaking countries. Therefore, the prize money for the world champion in carom is lower than other categories in billiards such as snooker or pool.
