Among nearly 100 applications for the 2024 Scientific Innovation contest, there are many solutions and products in the industrial sector, taking advantage of local raw materials.
After 2 months of launching, the Creative Science Contest (CSC) organized by VnExpress received applications from research groups, scientists, and students of universities and colleges. This year the contest accepts products from 5 field groups including: biomedicine - biochemistry, technology, agriculture, semiconductor chip materials, and environment. Particularly in the field of agriculture, many authors have highly applicable projects such as agricultural ionized water or instructions for quickly making pesticides from herbs. Some related solutions apply technology such as the process of growing hydroponic melons in greenhouses, and applying digital transformation in agriculture in Ben Tre.
Dr. Tran Phi Vu, Chairman of the Vietnam Innovation Network in Australia, Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, said that after the Covid-19 pandemic, agriculture plays an even more important role in ensuring security. national food. One of the eight sectors the Government wants to promote and develop in the coming time, in which smart and highly efficient agriculture is a priority.
According to Dr. Vu, the world trend goes beyond smart agriculture to highly efficient agriculture, which means instead of only paying attention to technology, it also focuses on production efficiency. For example, in Japan, the agricultural area is low but the planting efficiency is extremely high. To do this, it is necessary to have an automated production process and monitoring technology to promptly adjust the results accordingly. "Most 4.0 technologies such as AI, Bigdata, blockchain, IoT... are suitable to optimize performance," he admitted.
He cited the application of IoT technology to monitor grape growing systems for much higher efficiency than not using it. Or when using drone technology in pesticide spraying, the delivery speed is 40 times faster than traditional methods. Technology is present in the smart agriculture chain from the seed selection stage using AI to select plant varieties with good disease resistance genes, to the logistics stage with the application of blockchain and IoT technology in authenticating product origin by code. QR creates consumer trust. The product classification stage also applies high technology to easily classify by size and shape.
Dr. Vu assessed that Vietnam is lacking high-quality agricultural human resources, and the image value of agricultural products is still low, mainly because very few young people return from abroad to pursue agriculture. Accordingly, there is a need to invest in the young generation, promulgate policies to encourage creativity and attract high-quality young human resources to return to agricultural development instead of just traditional farmers.
The Science Innovation Contest enters its third year, with the goal of creating a playground for science and technology lovers with ideas and products that have value for use in life. The organizing committee accepts applications until March 3.
The preliminary round takes place from 00:01 on April 4 to 23:59 on April 21. Final round: From 4:00 on April 22 to 4:23 on May 59. The contest award ceremony will take place on May 9, broadcast live on Fanpage VnExpress.net.
The total prize is up to 300 million VND, including a special prize of 100 million VND, first prize of 70 million VND, second prize of 50 million VND, third prize of 30 million VND and two consolation prizes of 10 million VND each. In addition, CSC has an initiative item for remote areas with a value of 30 million VND.
