Recently, fans have been sharing images of Cristiano Ronaldo showing off his black-painted toenails during gym workouts or while relaxing.
At first glance, many people assume this is due to CR7's flamboyant and showy nature. However, according to sports experts, this action is actually closely related to the science of body recovery.
Spanish sports website Marca and German newspaper Bild both confirmed that Ronaldo uses a special black gel polish to cover his toenails. Unlike regular nail polish, this gel creates a strong protective layer, preventing damage to the nails during continuous and high-intensity activity.
German physical fitness expert Carsten Leppert, who has worked with many professional athletes, shared: "Black gel polish is a way many athletes use to prevent bacteria, nail fungus, and reduce impact. Athletes' toenails often bear significant force when running, turning, stopping abruptly, or being stepped on. A protective gel layer helps prevent cracking, bruising, or chipping."
In addition, Ronaldo is famous for applying modern recovery technologies such as cryotherapy - a method of immersing the body in a deep cold chamber to accelerate muscle tissue regeneration.
At extremely low temperatures, parts of the body such as fingertips, toes, and nails can be affected. Applying a layer of heat-insulating gel also helps protect the nails from shrinking, becoming brittle, and breaking when exposed to sudden cold.
Sports expert Dr. Michael Gleeson (UK) also agrees with this assessment: "Small details like toenail protection may seem unimportant, but at the highest level of sports, they can make a difference in stability and performance."

Not only Ronaldo, but many athletes in endurance sports such as long-distance running, MMA, and cycling also apply similar techniques. This shows that toenail care is no longer a secondary factor, but has become part of a comprehensive body protection strategy.
Cristiano Ronaldo has once again proven that class comes not only from talent or effort, but also from paying attention to the smallest details – including seemingly insignificant toenails.
