(Bqp.vn) – Morning of June 8, at Ha Noi, The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPO) in collaboration with the Australian Defense Attaché Office in Vietnam organized a conference to exchange experiences on Women, Peace and Security in United Nations peacekeeping operations. Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and Colonel Michael Jansen, Australian Defense Attaché in Vietnam co-chaired the conference.

Attending the conference were representatives of a number of functional agencies. Ministry of National Defense Vietnam; representatives of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam; Vietnamese female soldiers performing UN peacekeeping missions at a number of UN Peacekeeping Missions.

This Vietnam-Australia Experience Exchange Conference aims to raise awareness of gender and the UN Security Council’s Women, Peace and Security Agenda. It is also an opportunity for the two sides to discuss and evaluate lessons learned through preparation and practice at UN peacekeeping missions on the topic of Women, Peace and Security. In addition, the conference also aims to promote bilateral cooperation in the field of UN peacekeeping between Vietnam and Australia; at the same time, build and maintain a network of experts from Australia and Vietnam in this field.

This is the fifth time Vietnam and Australia have jointly organized an experience exchange activity on the topic of Women, Peace and Security, focusing on the following contents: The role of female UN peacekeepers; methods to create a better working environment for female UN peacekeepers; and enhancing the supporting role of men on the topic of Women, Peace and Security in the field of UN peacekeeping.

Over the years, Vietnam and Australia have regularly shared expertise and experience in this field and supported each other in promoting the Women, Peace and Security agenda at multilateral forums.
