According to data from the Customs Department, in July 2025 alone, export turnover reached 379 million USD, an increase of 35.4% compared to the previous month. China continued to be the largest market, accounting for over 87% with a value exceeding 1 billion USD, but decreased by 28% compared to the same period last year.
Many other markets saw significant increases, such as Hong Kong (China), which imported nearly $35 million, an 85% increase; Taiwan (China), the US, and Japan all experienced double-digit growth. Except for Thailand, which saw a 49% decrease, the remaining markets all increased imports by 14-1000%.
Businesses reported that export activities in the first half of the year faced many difficulties due to control procedures in China, causing many shipments to be delayed. However, the situation has now improved, and even companies that had not exported any shipments before have resumed exports.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, noted that durian exports are experiencing strong growth again, especially in mainland China, Taiwan, the US, and Hong Kong. During the upcoming peak season (September - October), export revenue could reach 500-550 million USD per month.
However, according to him, durian prices are unlikely to return to their peak levels of 2023-2024 because global supply is abundant. Besides Thailand and Vietnam, many other countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos are also involved in official exports to China.
One positive point is that Vietnamese businesses have better control over technical indicators such as yellow O or cadmium levels – factors that previously caused goods to be returned. Many companies require farmers and traders to test the quality before purchasing, helping to increase the customs clearance rate.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association expects fruit and vegetable exports to continue to be positive in the remaining months of the year, especially for key products such as frozen durian and coconut. The total export value for the year could reach 7 billion USD, close to last year's level.
