According to Decision 1431/QD-CTN signed by President Vo Van Thuong on November 28, 42 individuals were awarded the title of People's Artist. This is the latest list of People's Artist awards for the second round of 2023.

The first list, approved and signed by the President on June 22nd, included 77 artists who were awarded the title. Including both lists, a total of 119 artists were awarded the title of People's Artist for the 10th time, including the couple, Meritorious Artists Tan Minh and Thu Huyen, who both received the title.

Among the artists awarded the title of People's Artist for the second time is Meritorious Artist Tan Minh. Singer Tan Minh, born in 1972, is a male singer beloved by many audiences. He is the only modern music singer to be awarded the title of People's Artist this time.

Tan Minh was born in Nam Dinh and lost his father when he was only 15 years old. At 16, after winning a prize at the Student Singing Contest, he moved to Hanoi , passed the entrance exam to the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, and became an actor at the Thang Long Song and Dance Theatre.

He is known for popular songs such as: "The First Love Letter," "Pink Phoenix," "Mother," "First Love," "You and I," "I Sing You to Sleep," and "Longing to Return to Hanoi." In 2015, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist.

In the late 1990s, he began to gain popularity with the song "Phượng Hồng" on Vietnamese television, but only truly achieved success with his debut album, "Bức Thư Tình Đầu Tiên," under the technical guidance of musician Đỗ Bảo.

In 2004, he married the traditional opera artist Thu Huyền. During this time, he was the Deputy Head of the Light Music Troupe of the Thăng Long Music and Dance Theatre. In 2015, Tấn Minh became the Director of the Thăng Long Music and Dance Theatre, replacing musician Trọng Đài.

The wife of singer Tan Minh, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, currently the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre, is also on the list of recipients of the People's Artist title this year.

Thu Huyen was born in 1975 in Hanoi into a family with no one involved in the arts, but she loved Cheo singing from a young age.

She is famous for her role as Thi Mau in the traditional Vietnamese opera Quan Am Thi Kinh. Her eyes, described as sharp as a betel nut knife, along with her prominent canine teeth and a mole at the corner of her lip, contributed to making Thi Mau the most seductive character in Vietnamese folklore.

In 2018, the Hanoi City Council for the Awarding of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist titles removed her from the list of nominees to the State Council for the awarding of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist titles because she lacked a national gold medal.

Besides the couple Tan Minh and Thu Huyen, several other individuals were also awarded the title of People's Artist, including Xuan Bac (Vietnam National Drama Theatre), Pham Phuong Thao (Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theatre), Tran Ly Ly (Department of Performing Arts), My Uyen (Small Stage Theatre, Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Van Chuong, Dieu Huong, Mai Hoa (VOV Theatre)...
