As a group of photographers passionate about birds, Thuan Vo, Du Muc, and Hieu Le have dedicated much time to researching and photographing waterbirds in Vietnam.
Join Vietnam.vn in admiring the photo series "Dance on the Water" by this group of photographers and learn about the waterbirds found in many places across Vietnam.
Waterfowl are birds that live in close dependence on aquatic environments, such as swamps, permanently flooded areas, or areas that are temporarily flooded seasonally, including coastal and island regions.
Waterfowl are typically large, live in flocks, and forage in large areas where there is an abundant food source.
There are approximately 160 species of waterbirds found in Vietnam, accounting for more than 17% of the total number of bird species in the country. Most waterbird species are migratory, foraging for food or breeding, and migrating to overwinter.
Some well-known areas with high concentrations of waterbirds include coastal regions of northern provinces from Hai Phong to Thai Binh (especially Xuan Thuy National Park), as well as coastal areas of the Mekong Delta provinces such as Go Cong (Tien Giang), Ba Tri, Binh Dai (Ben Tre), or the coastal area of Can Gio in Ho Chi Minh City.
Here, hundreds of thousands of migratory coastal birds can be found, gathering to feed during their winter migration from September to April each year. The Mekong Delta is also home to flocks of egrets, herons, storks, etc., such as in Tram Chim National Park, U Minh Thuong National Park, and the Bac Lieu bird sanctuary…
The sea and islands of Vietnam include places with a high concentration of seabirds such as the Truong Sa archipelago, Hon Gio ( Quang Binh ), and Hon Trung (Con Dao - Ba Ria Vung Tau).Heritage Magazine
