This year's summer fruit crop is nearly 1 month later than usual, the yield of many crops is low, but the price of many fruits still plummets, causing many gardeners to stand still.
* Late crop, reduced productivity
In this year's summer fruit crop, farmers growing rambutan, mangosteen... in the province are worried because at the same time they are suffering from three negative impacts: late cropping, yield, and lower prices compared to every year.
Ms. Bui Thi My, owner of a mangosteen and rambutan garden in An Phuoc commune (Long Thanh district) said, possibly due to the influence of erratic weather, this year young rambutans fell a lot, greatly affecting their productivity. harvest yield. Mangosteen trees also lose their crops and are late. Mangosteen output harvested at the beginning of the crop decreased by about 40% compared to the same period every year. Especially this year, mangosteen has 2 blooms, not at the same time as every year. The second batch of fruit will be difficult to harvest because the fruit will be rough and damaged when ripe at the peak of the rainy season.
In Dong Nai, the price of durian grade 1 is from 55-57 thousand VND/kg, grade 2 is from 40-42 thousand VND/kg and grade 3 is under 30 VND/kg. Want a good price, farmers take good care to increase the percentage of high quality fruit.

With the same concern, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, owner of rambutan and mangosteen garden in Binh Loc commune (Long Khanh city) compares: "This year, rambutan and mangosteen are harvested a month later than every year. . The yield of mangosteen is not equal to every year; The size of rambutan is smaller, so it is difficult to get a good price. Meanwhile, the increasing cost of fertilizers and care costs also "eats" the profits of gardeners.
Summer fruit season is an occasion for many gardeners to increase their income thanks to the model of garden tourism. Late arrival of fruit also affects the activities of these growers.
Mr. Tran Van Loc, a garden tourism farmer in Binh Loc commune, said that every year, from May, many fruits such as rambutan, mangosteen, etc., give ripe fruit; The garden house is already in the season to welcome guests to enjoy summer fruits. This year, the summer fruits are in late harvest, the garden house is also open to welcome guests later. It is expected that from June 5, summer tourists will flock to winter garden houses.
* Deeply reduced price
The law of the market, usually the supply decreases, agricultural products sold will have good prices. This year, summer fruits are late in harvest, off-season, but the price is much lower than every year. Currently, the price of rambutan usually sold in the garden is only about 6 VND/kg, Thai rambutan is about 12 VND/kg, mangosteen is from 25 to 28 VND/kg, only 1/3 of the price compared to the previous month. .
Mr. Ho Duc Tan, a representative of the Management Board of Dau Giay Agricultural Products Wholesale Market (Thong Nhat District), said that the current output of fresh fruit to the market is only 60-100 tons/day, a 40% reduction in output. compared with the same period every year. Every year, in the harvest season, the supply is low, the fruits are priced high. But this year, the yield is low, the price of fruit is still falling rapidly due to very weak purchasing power in the market.
Some fruit traders in the province commented that the fruit market is very sluggish because of the difficult economic situation, consumers tighten their spending, fruit is not on the list selection priority.
Even durian products have always stood at a high price, but are now precarious because of fluctuating prices. According to a representative of Thanh Trung Packing Facility (Long Khanh City), 2 months ago, traders were racing to hunt for durian to export to China, so the price of this item was up to 70-80 thousand VND/kg. But recently, Thailand started the harvest season and increased exports to the Chinese market, so the domestic durian price immediately decreased by about 20 VND/kg compared to the previous month.
