| Farmers in Suoi Duc hamlet, Xuan Que commune, are aiming for a model of agricultural production combined with eco-tourism in their orchards. |
Therefore, ethnic minority communities such as the Hoa, Tay, and Nung in the area are eager to seize the development opportunities presented by Long Thanh International Airport and the Song Nhan - Xuan Que Industrial Park to expand employment opportunities, increase income, and improve their quality of life.
Opening up the "front door" for the land
Suoi Duc hamlet has a natural area of approximately 450 hectares and 207 households, of which ethnic minorities such as Hoa, Tay, and Nung account for over 85%. According to Pham Van Hai (a Hoa ethnic minority from Suoi Duc hamlet), a respected local resident, in 1979-1980, Suoi Duc hamlet only had a few dozen households, mostly ethnic minorities who migrated from Cao Bang , Lang Son, and Quang Ninh provinces. At that time, all trade with the outside world relied on footpaths and rubber plantation roads, making it very difficult. However, the soil here was very suitable for many short-term crops (corn, rice, beans) and industrial crops (cashew, rubber, coffee).
Because Suoi Duc hamlet is more than 12km from the center of Xuan Que commune, during the resettlement process, to reduce the "dusty in the sun, muddy in the rain" conditions for transporting goods and transportation, the ethnic minority people, along with the Kinh people, hamlet officials, and the commune government, contributed money and labor to pave many roads in the hamlet and its neighborhoods with asphalt and cement, totaling tens of billions of VND.
Along with the implementation of the new rural development program, the advanced new rural development program, and the construction of major transportation routes such as Highway 773, Provincial Road 10, and Ring Road 4, especially with the Long Thanh Airport and the Song Nhan - Xuan Que Industrial Park project being implemented, the people of Suoi Duc hamlet have made further efforts to contribute money and donate land to the hamlet and commune to pave 100% of the main roads in the hamlet, residential areas, and concentrated residential zones with asphalt and cement. Medium and low-voltage electricity lines have also covered all houses, fields, and gardens.
Reputable resident Pham Van Hai shared: "Over the long period of settlement, the lives of ethnic minority people and residents in Suoi Duc hamlet have changed significantly. The number of poor households according to the new criteria has disappeared, most people have decent housing, and the percentage of well-off households accounts for over 40% of the hamlet's population. Older people continue farming and producing, while young people easily find jobs in businesses. This is thanks to the efforts of each household, the strength of community solidarity, and the support of officials and authorities at all levels for Suoi Duc hamlet."
Many young people in Suoi Duc hamlet have found jobs in companies and industrial zones with stable incomes. Those who remain in the area to engage in agricultural production are resourceful, diligent, and hardworking. Therefore, the older generation of farmers in Suoi Duc hamlet are now delegating the responsibility of production, crop restructuring, and farming models to their children.
Mr. NGUYEN VAN LANH, Head of the Farmers' Association Branch in Suoi Duc Hamlet, Xuan Que Commune.
Seize opportunities with keen insight.
Key routes such as Highway 773, Provincial Road 10, and Ring Road 4 have brought the previously isolated and remote Suoi Duc hamlet to the forefront. Seizing this opportunity, farmers in the hamlet are seriously discussing plans to effectively utilize their family's land in a way that combines agriculture with services and ecotourism .
Farmer Tang Denh Hong (in Hamlet 3, Suoi Duc Village) shared: He will renovate and improve his family's 1.8 hectares of land. The two main crops will be rambutan and durian; he will also plant additional trees such as pomelo, oranges, lemons, guava, mangosteen, jackfruit, and pineapple to diversify the crops. When visitors come to tour and admire the garden, in addition to enjoying the fruit, if they wish to eat on-site, his family is ready to serve traditional local dishes.
Mr. Tang Dinh Hong, a second-generation Chinese immigrant in Suoi Duc hamlet, inherited the diligence and hard work of the Chinese community during the early days of settlement. He was also very astute in adapting his crops and livestock, and is a successful farmer in the hamlet and commune, with a total income exceeding 500 million VND per 1.8 hectares per year.
Meanwhile, farmer Tinh Ngoc Sang (of Hoa ethnicity, group 2, Suoi Duc hamlet), who owns 1.4 hectares of rambutan trees, said: Suoi Duc hamlet is 2.5km from Long Thanh Airport and 10km from the Song Nhan - Xuan Que Industrial Park project. When these projects become operational, they will open up job opportunities and related services for the Suoi Duc hamlet area if people know how to seize and exploit them. A favorable factor helping farmers in the hamlet seize this opportunity is that their land has land ownership certificates, and the local authorities encourage the development of agriculture combined with ecotourism.
Meanwhile, with the mindset of youth, Mr. Chau A Xung (of Hoa ethnicity, Group 1, Suoi Duc Hamlet) expressed: "There are great job opportunities in the coming years for young people, those of working age, and skilled workers who have left their hometowns for work and returned to contribute. For those of you who are about to enter the workforce, you must start now to study, learn a trade, grasp information technology and foreign languages so that you can work near home, earn a high income, and have low living costs when the Xuan Que - Song Nhan Industrial Park and Long Thanh Airport become operational."
The routes 773, provincial road 10, and ring road 4 have brought Suoi Duc hamlet to the "main road," freeing it from its previous isolation. In addition, the rural road system within the hamlet has been paved with asphalt or cement, connecting it to the main arterial roads. This greatly increases job opportunities and economic development for households in Suoi Duc hamlet, linked to the bustling activities of Long Thanh Airport and the Song Nhan - Xuan Que Industrial Park.
Head of Suoi Duc hamlet, Xuan Que commune, PHAM QUOC DUNG
The Suoi Duc hamlet is now bursting with new life. The will to seize opportunities and strive for wealth is even stronger among the young people of the ethnic minority groups in the area. Bui Van Tho, Secretary of the Party Branch and Head of the Fatherland Front Committee of Suoi Duc hamlet, shared: He always emphasizes to all cadres, Party members, and people in the hamlet the goal of agricultural development as clearly stated in the Resolution of the First Congress of the Xuan Que Commune Party Committee, term 2025-2030: focusing on developing high-tech agriculture, clean, organic, and ecological agriculture. Especially, agricultural production that ensures consumer health, enhances product value, and builds linkages and cooperation among farmers in developing ecotourism.
