In its latest update, the WHO now assesses the risk as "very high" for the Democratic Republic of Congo, "high" for Uganda and neighboring countries sharing land borders with affected areas, and "low" for the rest of Africa and globally.
As of June 7th, the Democratic Republic of Congo had recorded 515 cases, including 91 deaths. Uganda reported 19 cases and 2 deaths. All cases in Uganda remain epidemiologically linked to the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The WHO is currently coordinating with countries and partners to implement a range of response measures, including a plan to mobilize $518 million to support African nations in preparing for, detecting, and responding to outbreaks. Additionally, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has called for increased regional cooperation to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak.
