YouTube has officially become a key content distribution partner for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This agreement aims to optimize the football viewing experience in the digital environment. This marks the first time FIFA has extended extensive access to an online video platform.

The most important highlight is the live streaming. According to Google, fans can watch the first 10 minutes of matches for free on YouTube. Selected matchups will be streamed in full in specific markets. This helps increase the reach of the 48-match tournament taking place in North America.

This collaboration extends beyond live matches. FIFA will open its historical archives to YouTube, allowing users to relive classic moments from previous World Cups. Match summaries (highlights) will also be updated continuously and at high speed.

The role of content creators is being elevated. YouTube will bring celebrities to stadiums and backstage areas. They have the right to produce exclusive content to reach younger audiences.

"This partnership brings a fresh approach to football fans worldwide," a YouTube representative shared in a statement.

FIFA also emphasized its goal of leveraging YouTube's technological infrastructure to combat copyright infringement. Bringing legitimate content to the platform allows for better control over data flow.

In fact, this isn't the first time YouTube has partnered with FIFA. During the 2022 World Cup, YouTube brought top content creators to Qatar to produce exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.

However, the extent of this agreement is unclear. The platform does not specify which markets the broadcasting policy for the matches will apply to, including Vietnam. Currently, no domestic entity has announced ownership of the World Cup 2026 broadcasting rights. Typically, VTV handles FIFA tournaments and broadcasts them for free. However, on online platforms, only licensed entities are allowed to re-broadcast live.
