Greening the country's largest ecological zone.

In line with the global trend of adapting production to climate change, Lam Dong province, with the largest natural area in the country, distributed across three regions – the "thousand flowers," the "vast forests," and the "blue sea" – is anticipating breakthroughs in comprehensive and sustainable green transformation in its immediate and long-term strategies.

The green landscape captivates tourists.

For the 2026 New Year tourism season, Avocado Farm in Quang Lap commune continues to welcome a rapidly increasing number of tourists from all over the country and abroad. The basis for this expectation lies in the "giant" green transformation of agricultural products within the largest vegetable and flower growing area of Lam Dong province, comprising the communes of Quang Lap, Don Duong, D'ran, and Ka Do, totaling nearly 11,430 hectares. Avocado Farm, as the "key" agro-tourism destination, has been officially recognized by the authorities since early 2024 and plays a leading role in the development of rural tourism in the northern communes of the Lam Dong region, with an estimated total area of approximately 16,600 hectares currently undergoing "greening" of vegetables and flowers.

Avocado Farm owner Phan Thanh Nhân said that 2026 will be the 7th year of renovating, forming, and developing "green agro-tourism" on a total area of 25,000 . Originally, the farm cultivated old, low-yielding coffee trees with environmentally unfriendly solutions. Mr. Nhân has gradually replaced the old trees with green areas according to VietGAP and OCOP certification standards, creating a green farm landscape that attracts tourists year-round. This landscape includes not only the green, clean trees of avocado varieties like 034 and Booth, guava, plum, and pomegranate, but also sprawling flowerbeds and vegetable gardens, all in a region with a mild climate year-round.

Significantly, within the green supply chain spearheaded by Avocado Farm, the 4,000 Japanese black grape vineyard in Hiep Thanh commune has made its mark on the travel map after more than two years of clearing coffee trees to green the area. From 2026, the vineyard will be further greened by an additional 2,000 to meet the growing demand from domestic and international tourists. Furthermore, at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level, the organic vegetable and fruit gardens in Lang Biang ward, Da Lat, demonstrate an abundant supply of fresh air. A prime example is the circular farm of farmer Nguyen Thanh Hai, with a total terraced land area of approximately 15,000 , harvesting organic vegetables and fruits year-round, cultivated using organic nutrients and processed from recycled "plant materials" available in the garden. Domestic consumers are placing orders but cannot meet demand…

Enhancing national competitiveness

Besides developing agro-tourism, the green ecological zones in Lam Dong have successfully "reaped" clean, safe food products for export to the world's most demanding markets. Dragon fruit in the green coastal region of Lam Dong is one of the most convincing examples. Statistics show that by the end of 2025, the total area of dragon fruit in Lam Dong province will be nearly 26,490 hectares, accounting for 40% of the country's dragon fruit area, with a total production of 613,000 tons. This area and production are expected to increase by nearly 2% and 7% respectively compared to 2024. Mr. Huynh Canh, Chairman of the Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association, said that in addition to support programs from Lam Dong province's agricultural sector on perfecting cultivation techniques to meet the criteria for granting planting area codes and packaging codes, the association has regularly coordinated with the local agricultural sector to organize training and encourage producers inside and outside the association to expand the area of dragon fruit production to meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP certification standards, ensuring food safety and traceability to maintain and enhance the sustainable brand reputation of the province.

To date, the area of "green dragon fruit" in Lam Dong has reached approximately 45% VietGAP, 12% GlobalGAP, and 300 hectares of organic. The main export markets are Singapore, South Korea, India, Japan, China, the US, the EU, and the Middle East, with an 8% increase in 2025 compared to 2024. The domestic market is primarily distributed through large supermarket chains and wholesale markets in major provinces and cities, accounting for about 18% of total production. Leveraging the advantages of its unique blue sea ecosystem, Lam Dong aims to expand the area of internationally certified green dragon fruit by an additional 1,000 hectares by 2026.

Similarly, with its favorable natural conditions, the goal of the Lam Dong mountainous ecological zone by 2030, with a vision to 2050, identifies the development of green, organic, circular agriculture, reducing greenhouse gas emissions based on the application of science and technology, digital transformation, mechanization, and automation of production processes, closely linked with industry, services, preservation, processing, and consumption. These are breakthroughs for sustainable agricultural development in particular and contribute to the economic growth of Lam Dong province in general. Specifically, the Lam Dong mountainous ecological zone currently has over 100,000 hectares greened using high-tech solutions, with a total annual output estimated at over 420,000 tons. Of this, the area producing according to domestic and international quality certification standards is nearly 35,175 hectares. Seven regions and three agricultural enterprises have been recognized for applying high technology, covering a total area of nearly 3,556.2 hectares of rice, coffee, pepper, mangoes, etc.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, with an area of 24,233 km², the largest in the country, Lam Dong possesses all the necessary conditions in terms of climate, soil, forest and marine resources, creating a diverse and potentially rich development space. This advantage is used as a foundation to exploit and promote the development of high-tech agriculture combined with agro-tourism, processing industries and maritime logistics, forming a multi-sector value chain and enhancing national competitiveness for green agricultural products characteristic of the ecological zones in the province…
