Dong Thap Province - Fifty years after the country achieved peace and reunification, the armed forces of Dong Thap Province have continuously grown and strengthened, affirming their pivotal role in the cause of national construction and defense. From training and combat readiness to building a solid defense zone, along with an increasingly consolidated people's support, the provincial armed forces have always lived up to the trust and affection of the Party Committee, the government, and the people.

BUILDING A STRONG AND COMPREHENSIVE FORCE

The 320th Infantry Regiment, under the command of the Dong Thap Provincial Military Command, is a key unit responsible for training, combat readiness, and participating in the defense of the province's southwestern border and defense zone. Inheriting and upholding the heroic traditions, each officer and soldier of the Regiment always demonstrates a spirit of initiative, unity, creativity, and unwavering determination to excel in all combat training tasks, building a strong and comprehensive unit, achieving the title of "Exemplary and Outstanding," and making a significant contribution to consolidating the province's solid defense posture.

During peacetime, in addition to building a strong unit, the 320th Infantry Regiment actively carries out training and combat readiness, meeting the requirements of the mission in the new situation. The Party Committee and Command of the Regiment pay special attention to improving the command and management skills of officers at all levels. The quality of training for all personnel has improved significantly through the innovation of content, programs, and training methods according to the motto "Basic, practical, and solid," emphasizing comprehensive, in-depth training that is closely aligned with the mission requirements, the characteristics of the target group, and the operational area. The "Determined to Win" emulation movement and surprise emulation campaigns have been widely implemented, creating a vibrant atmosphere of competition throughout the armed forces.

The regiment also implemented many practical measures to overcome difficulties, focusing on political and ideological education for new recruits, motivating their morale, caring for their material and spiritual well-being and health, and creating the best conditions for soldiers to successfully complete their training and studies. As a result, the annual training of new recruits consistently achieved 100% completion of the content and program, with the unit achieving an overall excellent rating, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Chi Hai, Commander of the 320th Infantry Regiment, stated: “The Regiment focuses all resources on improving the quality of training, exercises, combat readiness, building a disciplined lifestyle, strictly adhering to military discipline, building a clean and strong Party committee, and a comprehensively strong unit, truly becoming a ‘Model and Exemplary’ unit of the provincial armed forces.”

A SOLID FOUNDATION FROM THE DEFENSE ZONE

Building a strong defense zone is a key task in local defense work. Over the years, Party committees, government agencies, departments, and socio-political organizations in Dong Thap province have thoroughly grasped the Party's viewpoints, policies, and guidelines, as well as the State's laws and regulations on building a defense zone. As a result, this work has made a significant contribution to socio-economic development while ensuring the province's national defense requirements are met.

In implementing Government Resolution No. 21 dated February 22, 2019, on building the provincial defense zone, the Provincial Military Command proactively advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a decision to consolidate the Steering Committee for building the provincial defense zone, people's air defense, counter-terrorism, and protecting political security and social order in the province. At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee approved the Provincial Defense Zone Construction Project for the period 2021-2025, focusing resources on building an increasingly solid defense zone. Local Party committees and authorities have concretized the directives from higher levels into specific resolutions, plans, and action programs, in accordance with the actual situation of each locality.

Colonel Nguyen Huu Cuong, Commander of the Dong Thap Provincial Military Command, stated: “The province has successfully organized numerous defense zone exercises at the provincial, district, and commune levels, all achieving the set objectives and ensuring absolute safety. Through these exercises, the leadership and management capacity of the Party committees and authorities, as well as the advisory capabilities of the armed forces and departments in coordinating and handling potential situations in the area, have been significantly enhanced. As a result, the province has been able to promptly adjust and supplement combat readiness plans and strategies to suit the actual situation.”

Under the close leadership of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and the decisive direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the all-people national defense posture, linked with the all-people security posture and the all-people border defense posture in the province, has been increasingly consolidated. The provincial armed forces have been built up to be stronger, effectively meeting the requirements of the tasks in the new situation. Party committees, governments, departments, agencies, and political and social organizations have intensified propaganda work on the position and importance of the task of building the defense zone to cadres, party members, civil servants, union members, association members, armed forces, and the people. Through this, they have guided the thinking and maintained the people's confidence in participating in building the armed forces, the all-people national defense, and the all-people security posture in the defense zone, contributing to maintaining political stability and social order and safety in the province.

In the coming period, the Provincial Military Command will continue to effectively implement Conclusion No. 204 dated September 27, 2021, of the Provincial Party Committee on "Continuing to strengthen leadership in national defense and security tasks in the 2021-2025 period," in accordance with the actual conditions and situation of the locality; build a national defense system and a people's defense posture linked with a solid people's security posture; and build a solid defense zone in the new situation. At the same time, the province will strengthen and expand foreign relations, create a favorable environment for socio-economic development, and maintain absolute security along the border.

THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE - THE FOUNDATION OF STRENGTH

In carrying out their duties, the provincial armed forces have always focused on innovation and creativity, effectively implementing many practical models, most notably the "Military-Civilian Tet" program. This program has created a widespread impact throughout the province, contributing to strengthening the increasingly close relationship between the military and the people.

The "Military-Civilian Tet" program, implemented since 2017, has become a beautiful tradition of the provincial armed forces every time Tet and Spring arrive. Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, political and social organizations, and the armed forces have closely coordinated to organize activities with rich content and forms, attracting widespread participation and support from the people. Each year, localities select communes to organize the "Military-Civilian Tet," mobilizing all resources in the community, contributing to changing the face of rural areas, strengthening the people's trust in the Party and government, and consolidating the solidarity between the military and the people.

Typically, in 2025, Thanh Binh district implemented "Military-Civilian Tet" activities linked to the implementation of the National Target Program on building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and social welfare programs in 13 communes and towns. Localities effectively promoted the contribution of labor from the people, carrying out many practical projects such as: building, repairing, and upgrading over 6km of rural roads; repairing and building 3 concrete bridges; donating and supporting the construction of nearly 400 houses; installing 380 solar-powered streetlights along nearly 20km of rural roads; planting thousands of trees; awarding 143 scholarships; donating nearly 3,600 health insurance cards; organizing free medical examinations and providing free medicine to over 1,900 people, actively contributing to the construction of new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and ensuring social welfare in the district.

According to statistics from the Provincial Military Command, in 2025, the "Military-Civilian Tet" program mobilized approximately 150 billion VND to build 36 bridges, 292 houses, renovate and repair 42km of rural roads, install 1,259 lighting fixtures, donate 2,140 health insurance cards, distribute 48,744 gifts to policy beneficiary families and poor households, and provide free medical examinations and medicine to over 8,000 people. Since 2017, the "Military-Civilian Tet" model has been organized in over 170 communes, wards, and towns throughout the province, with a total mobilized budget of over 1,030 billion VND, making a significant contribution to helping many localities achieve New Rural Area standards.

Colonel Nguyen Huu Cuong, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, shared: “The ‘Military-Civilian Tet’ model has created a strong shift in awareness and responsibility throughout the entire political system, mobilizing significant contributions from organizations and individuals in building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and implementing social welfare programs. It promotes the tradition of military-civilian solidarity, and strengthens Party committees, governments, armed forces, and socio-political organizations.”

With continuous efforts in building up forces, consolidating the defense zone, and fostering the people's support, the armed forces of Dong Thap province have been making important contributions to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland, proving themselves to be a reliable force of the Party Committee, government, and people of the province in the next stage of development.
