Walking along the streets of Rach Gia ward, it's not difficult to spot old, outdated motorbikes without license plates, often modified and towed with makeshift trailers carrying goods, construction materials, scrap metal, etc. These makeshift vehicles are commonly found near markets. Besides transporting goods for stalls, many vendors utilize these vehicles as mobile booths, selling their wares and parking haphazardly on sidewalks and in the middle of the road. Ms. Nguyen Kim Hoa, a resident of Rach Gia ward, said: “My house is on the street right next to the market. Every morning when I take my grandchild to school, I have to dodge three-wheeled carts and makeshift vendors parked haphazardly on the road. The narrowing of the main road, coupled with the congestion caused by people going to the market during peak hours, affects the commute to school and work for people living in the market area.”

Residents are fed up with the sight of makeshift tricycles and other rudimentary vehicles carrying all sorts of goods piled up and temporarily tied down, speeding through the streets. Especially those carrying construction materials, corrugated iron, and long steel bars on busy roads, making other road users shudder whenever they pass by. Speaking about these vehicles, Mr. Nguyen Phi Khanh, a resident of Rach Gia ward, said: “Every time I see these vehicles swaggering on the road, I'm very scared because they are completely unsafe. These homemade vehicles often lack turn signals, many drive recklessly, not following lane rules, even using foot brakes, carrying oversized loads without proper covering, and weaving through traffic. It's not just me; other road users are startled and their hearts race whenever they pass by these tricycles and makeshift vehicles. It's not just because of the loud noise, but also because of the blatant disregard for the law when these homemade vehicles carry goods that are much taller and longer than the vehicle itself.”
Mr. Le Hong Quan, a resident of Rach Gia ward, expressed his concern: “Every time I see makeshift three-wheeled vehicles carrying long, bulky loads of iron and sheet metal without any covering or warning signs, I don't dare drive close. I maintain a safe distance or let them go ahead while I drive slowly behind or take a different route for fear of collisions and accidents. These oversized vehicles occupy almost an entire lane, carrying so much cargo that they obscure the view of drivers behind them, hindering traffic and posing a potential risk of traffic accidents for road users. I hope the local authorities will address the violations of using three-wheeled and makeshift vehicles to prevent traffic accidents.”
Most owners of makeshift three-wheeled vehicles are people in difficult economic circumstances who, for the sake of making a living, accept the risks and violations of the law by using this type of vehicle. However, regardless of the reason, the use of makeshift vehicles not only obstructs traffic but also poses many potential accident risks, so it needs to be eliminated. Many people hope that the authorities will intervene and take decisive measures to resolve the situation of using three-wheeled and makeshift vehicles to transport bulky goods on the roads and for selling goods on the streets and sidewalks.
