- When the rainy season comes, people living in temporary and dilapidated houses are always worried about their safety. Thanks to the program to support the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses, many families in the province no longer have to worry about that and can gradually settle down and make a living.
Mr. Phuc's house is designed to be 80 square meters wide, including a living room, 2 bedrooms and an outbuilding. Mr. Phuc confided: My family used to live in a house built in 1989 and was seriously degraded. In September 2024, storm No. 3 ( Yagi ) caused the land behind the house to slide down, cracking the wall, and threatening to collapse. The family could not live there, so they had to move to another place to live temporarily. Due to difficult circumstances, my family has not been able to rebuild the house. Now, with the support of the State under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, my family has decided to find additional funds to rebuild the house. The family also chose a location to build the house that avoids the risk of landslides so that they can live in peace.
As an area that is annually affected by storms and floods, Dong Mo town, Chi Lang district has had many families suffer housing damage, especially during storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) in September 2024 and the flood in May 2022. Ms. Vy Thi Lan, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Mo town, said: In the past time, the Party Committee, government, and Fatherland Front of the town have paid attention to reviewing and counting households affected by natural disasters in order to propagate, mobilize resources, and propose resource support under the province's program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. From the beginning of 2025 to now, in the town, 8 households have been supported to build and repair houses under this program, of which 3 households affected by natural disasters have been supported to build new houses.
According to research, the program to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the province targets many subjects, including households affected by natural disasters and climate change. For example, in the list of households approved for support to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses according to Decision No. 1025/QD-UBND dated May 8, 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee (replacing Decision No. 270/QD-UBND dated January 24, 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee), in the province, there are 1,613 families affected by natural disasters and climate change and other subjects supported to build and repair houses; of which 1,037 households are supported to build new houses, 576 households are supported to repair houses. For newly built houses, the support level is 60 million VND, for repaired houses, the support level is 30 million VND.
Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, said: In recent times, the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in the province have stepped up propaganda and mobilized resources to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for the subjects, including households affected by natural disasters and climate change. With the spirit of "sharing food and clothes", "whatever you have contributes", many agencies, units, organizations, individuals, business communities inside and outside the province, and people from all walks of life in the area have joined hands to support with practical and specific contributions, from funding, construction materials to working days... Through this, it helps families have solid and safe houses to stabilize their lives.
As a result, by the end of May 2025, the whole province had started construction and repair of more than 1,000 houses for households affected by natural disasters and climate change according to Decision No. 1025 of the Provincial People's Committee, of which nearly 420 houses were completed. Previously, implementing Resolution No. 188, dated October 25, 2024 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, many households affected by natural disasters and climate change were also supported to remove temporary and dilapidated houses.
Currently, before the approaching rainy and stormy season, construction works are being accelerated to help people soon have safe and solid houses. Therefore, eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses also eliminates the anxiety of families facing natural disasters and climate change.
