- With the rainy and stormy season approaching, people living in temporary or dilapidated houses are constantly worried about their safety. Thanks to the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, many families in the province no longer have to worry about that, and are gradually settling down and making a living.
According to the design, Mr. Phuc's house is 80m², including a living room, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. Mr. Phuc shared: "My family used to live in a house with solid walls built in 1989, which had seriously deteriorated. In September 2024, Typhoon No. 3 ( Yagi ) caused a landslide behind the house, cracking the walls and posing a risk of collapse. My family couldn't live there anymore, so we had to move to a temporary place. Due to difficult circumstances, my family hasn't been able to rebuild the house. Now, with the support of the government under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, my family has decided to raise additional funds to rebuild the house. We also chose a construction site that avoids areas at risk of landslides so we can live in peace."
As an area heavily affected by storms and floods every year, Dong Mo town in Chi Lang district has seen many families suffer damage to their homes, especially during Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon Yagi) in September 2024 and the heavy rains and floods in May 2022. Ms. Vy Thi Lan, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Mo town, said: In recent times, the town's Party Committee, government, and Fatherland Front have focused on reviewing and compiling statistics on households affected by natural disasters to disseminate information, mobilize resources, and request support under the province's program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. From the beginning of 2025 to the present, eight households in the town have received support for building or repairing houses under this program, including three households affected by natural disasters who received support for building new houses.
According to our research, the program to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the province targets many groups, including households affected by natural disasters and climate change. For example, in the list of households approved for support to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses according to Decision No. 1025/QD-UBND, dated May 8, 2025, of the Provincial People's Committee (replacing Decision No. 270/QD-UBND, dated January 24, 2025, of the Provincial People's Committee), there are 1,613 families affected by natural disasters, climate change, and other eligible groups receiving support for house construction and repair; of which 1,037 households receive support for building new houses, and 576 households receive support for house repairs. For new houses, the support level is 60 million VND, and for house repairs, the support level is 30 million VND.
Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, said: In recent times, the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in the province have intensified propaganda and mobilization of resources to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for eligible individuals, including households affected by natural disasters and climate change. With the spirit of "sharing food and clothing," and "everyone contributes what they can," many agencies, units, organizations, individuals, business communities inside and outside the province, and people from all walks of life have joined hands to provide practical and concrete contributions, from funding and construction materials to labor... This has helped families have sturdy and safe homes to live in peace and stability.
As a result, by the end of May 2025, the entire province had started construction and repair of more than 1,000 houses for households affected by natural disasters and climate change according to Decision No. 1025 of the Provincial People's Committee, of which nearly 420 houses had been completed. Previously, implementing Resolution No. 188, dated October 25, 2024, of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, many households affected by natural disasters and climate change had also received support to replace temporary and dilapidated houses.
Currently, with the rainy and stormy season approaching, construction projects are being accelerated to help people have safe and sturdy homes as soon as possible. Therefore, eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses also alleviates the constant worry for families in the face of natural disasters and climate change.
