New Year in Phu Nham

This spring, visiting Phu Nham – a village rich in tradition in Phu Ninh district – we saw many well-built and spacious roads, schools, community cultural centers, and sports facilities. From the banyan tree at the village gate – a symbol of Phu Nham village – to the residential areas, we could always feel the joy and excitement of the people at the changes in their homeland.

A large number of people from all walks of life in Phu Nham commune participated in the movement to clear village roads, plant flowers and ornamental trees, creating a bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscape for their homeland.

Comrade Tran Thi Mai Le - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Phu Nham Commune Party Committee, said: Phu Nham started as a hilly commune, interspersed with low-lying rice fields, facing many difficulties and frequently suffering from natural disasters, which significantly affected the lives of the people as well as the socio-economic development of the locality. The local Party committee and government have strengthened coordination with the Fatherland Front and other political and social organizations in building and promoting emulation movements and campaigns, creating social consensus, and leveraging the combined strength of the entire political system in implementing the political, economic, and social tasks of the locality.

In 2017, Phu Nham was recognized as meeting the standards of a new rural area. This served as a "boost" for the Party committee, government, and people of the commune to continue their efforts, actively participating in campaigns and emulation movements, including the "All people join hands to build new rural areas" movement, and engaging in production to maintain the criteria and strive to reach a new milestone: achieving the standards of an advanced, model new rural commune.

In agricultural production, the commune has shifted its production structure towards commodity production, promoting the application of scientific and technological advancements, and introducing new high-yield and high-quality varieties into production. Particularly in 2024, despite unfavorable weather conditions, the commune's Party Committee and government focused on leading and directing the people to plant according to plan, decisively directing the crop structure and seasonal planting, and implementing disease prevention measures for livestock; developing plans for repairing and dredging irrigation canals to overcome blockages and serve agricultural production; and strengthening investment resources in rural infrastructure, linked to the national goal of building new rural areas. The Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune have led and directed the development of lotus seeds as a key agricultural product of the commune and implemented traceability for Phu Nham pomelo products in accordance with VietGAP standards.

In industrial and handicraft production, along with maintaining stability in key sectors such as mechanics, cement bricks, wood processing for export, packaging, embroidery, etc., the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune focus on encouraging and creating favorable conditions for the development of the "Noodle and Cake Production and Service Village in Chùa Hamlet, Zone 2B". Currently, there are 75 households participating in the village, including 6 households producing noodles using technological production lines, with a processing output of 100-150 kg/household/day and a value of 45 million VND/household/month; and 18 households producing various types of cakes using technological production lines, with an estimated processing output of 35 kg/household/day and a value of 16 million VND/household/month. To date, the commune has established and maintained stable operations of 1 automation company, 2 industrial embroidery companies, 5 packaging garment companies, 5 cement brick factories, 9 carpentry workshops, etc., creating regular jobs for over 200 workers, with incomes ranging from 5-8 million VND/person/month.

Along with agricultural production, industry, and handicrafts, the commune encourages the development of various trades and services. In particular, transportation services are thriving, basically meeting the transportation needs of the people. In addition, there are 184 households engaged in various businesses, providing stable income for hundreds of workers.

In fulfilling the task of building new rural areas, along with maintaining and upholding all 19/19 criteria and 57/57 indicators already achieved compared to the set of criteria for new rural areas in the 2021-2025 period, Phu Nham regularly reviews, supplements, and improves the criteria, especially those related to transportation, cultural infrastructure, production organization, environment, and food safety. Ahead of the Lunar New Year 2025, the commune installed additional lighting systems on main roads, intersections, and alleyways to ensure nighttime illumination. They also built additional welcome gates for the commune and residential areas, and launched a movement to plant flowers and create flower-lined roads to create a bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscape. Currently, areas 1A, 2A, and 4 of the commune have installed exercise equipment for the elderly and children as per regulations. The remaining six areas have also developed investment plans to soon install sports and fitness equipment in accordance with the criteria for New Rural Development.

The positive developments in socio-economic growth are an important prerequisite for the commune to gradually complete the criteria for building model new rural residential areas. The commune's organizations have intensified propaganda efforts among cadres and members to actively participate in the "National Solidarity Movement for Building New Rural Areas and Civilized Urban Areas" campaign, giai đoạn 2023-2024; and to ensure environmental sanitation and beautify houses. Models such as "Clean House, Beautiful Garden," and "Beautiful from House to Street" have attracted a large number of members, bringing a new look to Phu Nham. In 2024, implementing Resolution No. 05-NQ/BCH dated January 14, 2021, of the Party Committee of Phu Nham commune on the comprehensive development of infrastructure in Phu Nham commune, giai đoạn 2021 - 2025, the commune completed and put into use a two-story, four-classroom subject classroom building at Phu Nham Primary School. Simultaneously, it directed the construction of new community cultural centers in areas 1A and 4; and carried out repairs and upgrades to seven cultural centers in the remaining areas according to Project 04/DA-UBND dated December 2, 2021, of the People's Committee of Phu Ninh district.
