New Year on the ladder of knowledge

Early spring arrives in the rocky highlands; clouds still linger over the jagged mountain ridges, a light mist hangs over the highland schoolyards, and the warm sound of the school drum awakens a new rhythm of life in the vibrant academic competition from villages to towns. In the new face of Tuyen Quang after the merger, education continues to be affirmed as the foundation of sustainable development, a cornerstone for nurturing generations of young people to confidently enter the digital age while preserving the cultural identity of their homeland.

The 2025-2026 academic year opens in the context of the entire province implementing the Resolution of the First Congress of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, with the spirit of "Discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development". The Tuyen Quang Provincial Education sector has identified its central task as "Promoting fundamental and comprehensive educational reform towards a modern and substantive direction", especially the quality of the high school graduation exam and the entrance exam to grade 10 - one of the important measures to assess the quality of education in the province.

From the beginning of the school year, the Director of the Tuyen Quang Department of Education and Training, Vu Dinh Hung, assigned the task of innovation and breakthroughs to the principals of educational institutions, striving to bring Tuyen Quang up to the 28th-30th group out of 34 provinces and cities nationwide in terms of high school graduation exam scores. At the same time, he demanded a strong reform of teaching methods, shifting from equipping students with knowledge to developing their qualities and competencies; focusing on self-learning skills, independent thinking, digital skills, and the ability to integrate into the global community. The goal is not to improve quality for the sake of high scores, but to ensure Tuyen Quang students possess genuine knowledge, real skills, and success in the new era.

This determination was set in the context of the education sector facing many unique challenges in a mountainous province after administrative reorganization: large school sizes, vast geographical area, and a high percentage of ethnic minority students. However, it is precisely in this context that the important foundations of the sector are further affirmed. After the administrative reorganization, the province manages 1,069 educational institutions, with nearly 500,000 students, of which over 78% are ethnic minority students - a unique characteristic that both presents challenges and creates a profound humanistic depth in the education system of the mountainous region. The percentage of schools meeting national standards increased to 64.71%, and the quality of mass education continues to be strengthened; Regarding advanced education, during the 2021-2025 period, the province had 212 students winning national awards for academic excellence, and for two consecutive years, projects participated in the International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States – milestones that affirm the solid progress in nurturing talent.

Students in mountainous communes have gained access to digital technology through computer science classes.

Educational infrastructure has received significant investment, with 70.7% of classrooms being modernized. Phase 1 of the Tuyen Quang Specialized High School project at its new location has been completed and put into use, creating favorable conditions for the development of this key provincial school. Recruitment and development of the teaching staff have been prioritized, with 1,072 new teachers recruited and over 7,700 civil servants promoted. This has increased the percentage of teachers meeting or exceeding standards at all levels, with 100% of high school teachers holding a university degree or higher. This forms a crucial foundation for reforming teaching methods and meeting the requirements of the new general education curriculum.

Digital transformation is a prominent highlight of Tuyen Quang's education sector. The Education Department has established a Science and Technology Application and Digital Transformation Team, directly supervised by the Director of the Department; 100% of schools are connected to the internet; all school, class, and student data has been digitized; and electronic student records and digital signatures have been widely implemented in schools. To date, 252 out of 695 schools have been equipped with online classrooms, facilitating the expansion of the "digital school" model and gradually approaching artificial intelligence in management and teaching. This provides a foundation for Tuyen Quang to move closer to its goal of building digital schools, smart schools, and happy schools.
Alongside this, the education sector is promoting English language teaching, gradually making English the "second language" in schools; developing STEM education and scientific research in secondary schools; and implementing career guidance and vocational orientation after lower and upper secondary education. Nutritional care and support for students in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, and border regions are regularly maintained to ensure that all children have the opportunity to attend school and study in the best possible conditions.

Looking ahead to the 2025-2030 period, the province sets ambitious goals: 100% of classrooms will be structurally sound; 100% of secondary schools will have online learning facilities; 73% of kindergartens and over 80% of general education schools will meet national standards; and Tuyen Quang's education quality will be among the top 25-30 most developed provinces and cities nationwide. Simultaneously, the province aims to build mechanisms for identifying, nurturing, and utilizing talent; attract experts and skilled teachers to work locally; expand the system of boarding and semi-boarding schools in remote and border areas; and create a foundation for developing high-quality human resources – a key objective in the province's development strategy.

Spring is arriving throughout the mountains and forests of Tuyen Quang, in the houses, on every road to school, and in the clear eyes of the highland students. In the lingering sound of the school drum in the spring air, we see another spring unfolding – the spring of knowledge, faith, and aspiration. With the innovative vision of the education sector, the decisive leadership of the head of the institution, the support of the teaching staff, and the striving spirit of the students, Tuyen Quang's education is writing a new spring on the steps of knowledge – the spring of the path to the future.
