On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), the National Political Publishing House published the book "Dien Bien Phu - An Impossible Mission" by Associate Professor Dr. Tran Viet Nghia.
The victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954 was a glorious milestone in the history of the Vietnamese nation, marking the end of the nine-year resistance war against French colonialism and leading to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina.
Seventy years have passed, but the glorious victory of Dien Bien Phu, which shook the world, still resonates. The Dien Bien Phu campaign has been depicted in numerous works, books, articles, films, and photographs from both sides of the conflict and from around the world . Each work offers a different approach and exploration of this theme.

With a fresh approach, engaging writing style, and the use of diverse and rich domestic and foreign materials, presented from an objective and multifaceted perspective, the book "Dien Bien Phu - An Impossible Mission" by Associate Professor Dr. Tran Viet Nghia contributes to clarifying the long and arduous nine-year resistance war against French colonialism, the highlight of which is the Dien Bien Phu victory of our army and people.
The book is structured into 14 sections, highlighted by striking chapter titles, with the overarching idea that to understand the outcome of a war, one must first understand how that war began.
The decision to build Dien Bien Phu as the strongest fortified complex in the Navarre Plan affirmed the importance and desire of France to change the course of the war in Indochina. Dien Bien Phu thus became a "historic rendezvous point" in the confrontation between two rivals both eager for victory. However, this seemingly feasible task of the French colonialists soon became impossible, because their aggressive ambitions could not stop the strength of patriotism and the determination of the Vietnamese people to regain independence and peace.
