Enjoy the beauty of mother nature
In humans, more than 70% of the body is water. Since birth, water has been an indispensable part to maintain human life. Under the vast, mysterious water, the overlapping waves always arouse the curiosity to explore and conquer of each person. Therefore, nowadays, there are many popular underwater sports. For example, open water swimming is chosen by people with good swimming skills and a passion for long-distance swimming. Or some adventure sports such as freediving and scuba diving are being continuously invested by young people to learn up to tens of millions, even hundreds of millions to master the skills. Another easier sport is kayaking, sub is also often on sea tours organized in bays and islands with calm winds, smooth currents, and majestic nature.
Nguyen Thu Hang (28 years old, living in Hanoi) shared that freediving is like a meditation method. When diving, learners are required to relax and loosen their entire body to reach the limit of holding their breath for the longest time and going as deep as possible. She said that before diving in the sea, she spent a whole year studying and practicing diving in indoor pools. Hang shared that some basic skills learners must know are ear balance (not having ear pain when going to a depth of 5 - 10m), skills in using diving equipment such as kicking fins (a type of flipper used in diving), using a snorkel, swimming, rescue...
Thu Hang said that under the ocean is a completely different world, when divers immerse themselves in the blue sky, with schools of fish swimming around, and colorful coral clusters: “If in museums we only see specimens, in aquariums people see creatures through glass, then when free diving I immerse myself in the ocean, returning to my second family. I swim with schools of fish, explore colorful corals, and meander with the flow of the water.”
Le Ngoc Anh (29 years old, living in Hanoi) said that she has a special interest in water sports. She has good swimming skills, can swim continuously from 2 to 5km without rest after many years of practice. Therefore, Ngoc Anh loves swimming in the sea, every summer she goes to beautiful beaches such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Phu Yen, Cat Ba, Co To to swim. She shared: “I learned to swim since I was a child, I also love swimming. In the summer, I go to the sea three to four times to swim along the natural routes, salty with the smell of the sea. In the winter, I will wait until the holidays to book a flight to the beaches in the south, or in tropical countries in Southeast Asia, combining relaxation with family and swimming”.
Ngoc Anh loves participating in amateur swimming competitions held in provinces and localities. She shared: “Usually, on vacations, I swim back and forth in safe areas with ropes at beaches and lifeguards. However, the swimming distance is quite short, only about 1 - 2km. On the contrary, swimming in amateur competitions, with lifeguards, organizers, and professional instructors, I can swim longer distances of 5 - 10km”.
Swimming acts as a full body workout that helps relax muscles and relieve body pain. Swimming will help relax muscles in the neck or back and other muscle pain. Swimming not only helps her train her back strength, but also reduces tension that is appearing in areas such as the arms, neck, legs, back, etc.
Many scientific studies have shown that underwater sports bring positive benefits. For example, scuba diving helps practitioners increase their body's agility and flexibility in many different situations. When participating in scuba diving, the intensity of continuous underwater movement is a factor that promotes the body to be more flexible, coordinates stable breathing to maintain balance, etc. Therefore, if pursuing this sport, practitioners will find themselves more agile and flexible not only in action but also in thinking and reasoning.
The Copenhagen Heart Study in Denmark has listed eight exercises that can help prolong life and found that one exercise can add nearly 10 years to your life. The results of the study were also published in the medical journal Sciencedirect. The study was conducted on 8,577 people in Copenhagen, aged 20 to 93. The researchers analyzed the types and habits of exercise and followed the health status of the study participants for 25 years. The results showed that swimming can add 3.4 years to your life.
Play sports safely and scientifically
Although water sports bring many benefits to participants, however, players need to be careful to ensure their own safety. In fact, there have been unfortunate accidents that have happened to players of these sports such as being swept away by ocean currents, drowning, lack of oxygen...
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam has issued a Circular promulgating the National Technical Regulation on safety of equipment used at facilities operating in the sport of diving. The regulation stipulates that the diving activity area is determined as the sea area regulated by the administrative authority in which at least the following factors must be determined: 1) Depth around the activity area; 2) Currents around the activity area; 3) Obstacles around the activity area; 4) Differences in the activity area; 5) Density of vessels circulating on the water surface; 6) Discharge of waste onto the water surface; 7) Distance to shore.
In addition, when playing free diving or scuba diving, players need to participate in reputable training courses to have basic knowledge. Such as knowledge of ear balance, using scuba fins, static (breath holding practice). Or when participating in scuba diving activities, players must learn how to use safety equipment.
In some countries around the world such as Thailand, Korea, Japan... there are regulations that divers must have a diving certificate to participate in this sport, to ensure the safety of the players.
As for sports such as long-distance outdoor swimming, players are required to bring open water buoys (a specialized buoy to ensure the safety of swimmers). Usually, accompanying outdoor swimming teams will be support boats, buoys, and monitors on the side. Most of the grassroots competitions in Vietnam such as Aquaman, Oceanman,... are currently applying these methods to help swimmers safely reach the finish line in large, vast sea and lake environments.
Another sport is kayaking, which is more popular in coastal resorts in Vietnam. This is a relatively easy and safe sport. However, when kayaking, players need to pay attention to weather conditions as well as water temperature. Kayaking in rough waters or stormy weather is a very wrong choice. Visitors should also wear clothes suitable for the weather to keep warm or protect against the sun, and be careful with offshore winds that make it difficult to return to shore. Always follow the boating rules of the area. Do not use alcohol or drugs with side effects when kayaking. Never exceed the load capacity of the boat and always check your equipment for wear before paddling. Most importantly, always have adequate protective gear. Coast Guard regulations require all kayaks to have life jackets on board. Wearing a life jacket will help keep your head above water and the insulation will keep you warmer in cold water.
