Yamal has been constantly facing misfortunes. |
Lamine Yamal is reportedly more disliked than loved within the Spanish national team. The young player, born in 2007, is seen as not fully committed to the national team, having been repeatedly withdrawn from squads due to injury.
"Yamal has more 'enemies' than friends when he's on the national team. One thing that's readily apparent is that the Barcelona star has long been unpopular with the Real Madrid players," El Nacional revealed.
At 18, Yamal is gradually experiencing the harsh realities of being a football prodigy. Recently, the young talent born in 2007 has faced continuous criticism regarding his attitude, immaturity, and personal image. Despite Barcelona's efforts to alleviate the pressure on the young star, the situation has not improved.
In Spain, many influential figures in football have publicly expressed their disappointment with Yamal. Journalist Isaac Fouto even called on coach Luis de la Fuente not to call him up for the 2026 World Cup, accusing the young striker of disloyalty to "La Roja".
Former Spain national team coach, Javier Clemente, also believes that Yamal will struggle to reach a high level unless he soon improves his lifestyle and behavior off the pitch.
According to El Pais , even on the field, Yamal constantly endured racist abuse from opposing fans. "Yamal is the target of 60% of all racist abuse directed at football players in Spain, double that of Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid," the newspaper stated.
