The Central Highlands have diverse ecosystems such as evergreen and semi-evergreen broadleaf forests, grasslands, wetlands, dipterocarp forests, and coniferous forests... Among these, dipterocarp forests and coniferous forests are unique to the Central Highlands and are found in large areas.
Of the five National Parks here, Yok Don (located in Dak Nong and Dak Lak provinces) has the largest dry deciduous forest habitat. It boasts a rich and diverse array of flora and fauna, adapted to the two distinct rainy and dry seasons.
From around April to October, the rainy season here makes the trees lush and green, bearing flowers and fruit, many verdant meadows appear, many ponds and lakes fill with water, and aquatic species from the Serepok River flock in to lay eggs and raise their young.
This is the ideal time for many species of birds and animals to come and hunt. On the small ponds scattered throughout the forest, it's easy to spot birds such as egrets, herons, kingfishers, and eagles circling around to hunt fish. Some predatory birds also come here to hunt smaller birds, fish-eating animals, and creatures that come here to drink water.
