10 places to visit in Phnom Penh

VnExpressVnExpress03/05/2023

Royal Palace (Cambodian Royal Palace)

The royal palace is notable for its gilded roof in the classical Khmer architectural style. It served as the residence of King Sihamoni and the royal family, foreign dignitaries, and the venue for royal audiences, diplomatic ceremonies, and festivals. Therefore, much of the palace is closed to the public.

Tourists are only permitted to visit the Throne Hall, the Silver Pagoda, and surrounding buildings. Visitors must wear trousers that reach the knees and sleeves that reach the elbows. Otherwise, they need to wrap themselves in a sarong. The palace is usually crowded on weekends, when locals flock to pay their respects to the king. However, mingling with the crowds is a fun way to experience it, according to Lonely Planet.

The entrance fee is $10. Visitors are encouraged to hire a guide to fully understand the history and architecture of the place.
