Sleeping under a mosquito net prevents dengue fever - Illustration
In recent weeks, the number of dengue fever cases has increased rapidly, with many children being hospitalized with severe complications. To effectively protect your children, you need to proactively prevent the disease using the "three-layer barrier" model, which is simple, easy to remember, and easy to implement.
1. Block the door - prevent mosquito bites.
Sleep under a mosquito net both day and night, as Aedes aegypti mosquitoes (which transmit dengue fever) are usually active during the day; wear long-sleeved shirts and light-colored long pants when going outside or in areas with many mosquitoes; kill mosquitoes and larvae; cover water containers tightly...
2. Blocking from the inside - boosting immunity
Help the body fight viruses effectively, reducing the risk of liver and blood vessel damage. Ensure adequate nutrition, including vitamin C (oranges, lemons), zinc (red meat, eggs), and protein (milk, fish, beans); when a child has a fever, don't force them to eat large meals, but instead divide them into smaller portions for easier digestion; get adequate rest, limit phone and TV use → avoid stress and support recovery; use medication correctly, such as not overusing paracetamol (maximum 4g/day); absolutely do not use aspirin or ibuprofen as they can cause severe bleeding.
3. Avoid complacency and negligence - early detection for timely treatment.
Early detection of the disease is crucial to avoid dangerous complications such as shock, liver failure, and hemorrhage. Closely monitor your child when they are sick and take them to the doctor immediately if dangerous signs appear: lethargy, restlessness, abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, cold hands and feet, nosebleeds, especially during the 3rd-6th day of the illness, which is the most dangerous period. Dengue fever can be successfully treated with early diagnosis, close monitoring, and proper treatment.
