Through its actions, courage, and humanity, the Coal and Mineral Workers' Union serves as a bridge connecting the will and beliefs of tens of thousands of miners, creating the strength and position of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group today.
Growing up during the most challenging times for the coal industry.
Before the establishment of the Corporation, the coal industry faced numerous difficulties and challenges. Illegal coal mining was rampant, resources and the environment in mining areas were severely affected, production stagnated, and employment and livelihoods of workers were severely affected.
Amidst those challenging times, after the establishment of the Vietnam Coal Corporation, on July 1, 1996, the Vietnam Coal Corporation Trade Union, the predecessor of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union, was founded, opening a new chapter for the organization representing tens of thousands of coal industry workers.
Immediately after its establishment, the Trade Union quickly stabilized its organization, strengthened the confidence of the workers, worked with the professional staff to overcome difficulties, took care of employment, and retained workers in the mine and their profession.

Throughout its congresses, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union has consistently identified its core and overarching goals: consolidating the organization and innovating its operational methods for the benefit of workers; collaborating with management to organize production, stabilize livelihoods and employment; and working with local authorities to care for social welfare.
When the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group was established with a multi-sector business model, in order to standardize the organizational model, on July 18, 2006, the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor decided to establish the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Trade Union, directly under the General Confederation.
In line with the policy of streamlining the organizational structure, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union quickly reorganized its agency to ensure it was in line with the overall situation, improving efficiency, effectiveness, and effectiveness in directing the miners' movement.
In 2011, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union officially joined the World Union of Mining and Energy Workers and the Global Union of Industrial and Manufacturing Workers, affirming the position of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union with international trade union organizations.
Over the past 30 years, the Group's employees have experienced the ups and downs of the economy . In addition, they have faced the harsh impacts of weather, historical floods, Typhoon Yagi, and the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused serious damage to production, business, and the livelihoods and employment of the workers.

However, it was precisely in times of hardship that the miners' tradition of "Discipline and Unity" shone brightly, and the role of the Trade Union was affirmed more clearly than ever before. The Trade Union continued to assert its role as a reliable support for workers, working alongside the professional departments to maintain production, stabilize employment, income, and the lives of tens of thousands of workers.
At the 30th anniversary celebration of the Coal and Mineral Workers' Union, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Nguyen Anh Tuan, affirmed: Over the past 30 years, the TKV Workers' Union has consistently maintained its role as a center for uniting and gathering workers, a reliable bridge between the Party, management, and workers, and an organization representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its members and workers. It is noteworthy that throughout the group's development, in every difficult or favorable period, the Trade Union has provided responsible and effective support.
When patriotic movements become a driving force for development
Throughout its three-decade journey, the patriotic emulation movements launched by the TKV Trade Union have not only created a vibrant atmosphere of labor and production but have also become a driving force for the development of the entire industry.
Movements such as "Glory of the Miners"; "Enterprises for Miners"; "Enterprises for Workers"; "Miners' Welfare"; "Workers' Month"... spread the spirit of innovation and creativity, unleashing the collective strength and dedicated efforts of workers throughout the Group.

Typical movements such as: "Achieving record productivity," "Rapid tunnel excavation," "90 days and nights of decisive victory," "Safety-Innovation-Development," "Skilled workers - High income," "Mechanization-Automation-Informatization," etc., became the driving force, motivating tens of thousands of workers to compete in production and work. Thousands of technical innovation initiatives were applied to production, many key projects were completed, and many teams achieved record productivity, contributing to improving the Group's production and business efficiency.
Notably, the "Excellent Worker - Creative Worker" movement has sparked tens of thousands of initiatives, benefiting businesses by trillions of dong. The number of workers earning high incomes is increasing. By 2025, nearly 14,500 miners will earn 300 million dong per year; over 600 miners will earn between 500 and 600 million dong; and over 100 miners will earn 600 million dong. In particular, 7 miners have already achieved incomes exceeding 700 million dong.
Every year, hundreds of individuals are awarded the title of "Creative Miner" by the TKV Trade Union. These emulation movements have discovered and fostered a generation of outstanding miners and skilled managers; serving as a driving force and foundation for realizing the emulation movement: "Excellent Workers, High Productivity, Good Income" launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

The greatest asset that the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union has preserved over the past 30 years is the trust and support of the workers. Because behind the meters of mines, the layers of coal, and the production shifts, there is always the silent but persistent sharing of the Union at all levels.
The efforts to care for the lives of the workers have touched the hearts of every employee. The "Miners' Tet" program, launched in 2020 with the motto: "All TKV employees have a Tet holiday," has brought warmth to tens of thousands of families, becoming a unique brand of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group every time Tet and spring arrive.
From here, thousands of "Trade Union Shelter" houses have been built with support ranging from 50 to 90 million VND per house since 2025. Meal allowances, transportation, hot showers, and laundry services for furnace workers are always given careful attention; 100% of workers receive annual health check-ups; care is given to workers with declining health; and families of workers who have contributed to the industry's production are supported.

In addition, welfare programs such as luxury vacations, regular nursing care for workers, lung cleansing for furnace workers, and the construction of clean and civilized dormitories contribute to continuously improving the health and quality of life for workers.
Activities aimed at caring for miners not only provide material support but, more importantly, contribute to stabilizing their morale and income, creating a safe working environment, and bringing warmth and camaraderie to miners in the shared home of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Corporation.
In response to the need to reorganize and restructure the workforce, the Trade Union proactively coordinated and organized thousands of dialogues to resolve difficulties and ensure the rights of workers. Annually, together with specialized agencies, it directs units to organize Workers' Conferences and year-end review activities, creating a democratic atmosphere within the units.
Occupational safety and health work has been enhanced through annual joint resolutions and the application of advanced management and forecasting systems. Competitions for outstanding occupational safety and health officers, Workers' Month, and peak emulation months for ensuring occupational safety and health are organized annually.
Activities such as "Miners' Songs"; "The Ninth Hour"; and sports competitions, performances, and contests are organized regularly, contributing to enriching the spiritual life and elevating the cultural identity of miners in the new era.
The women's labor movement has made a distinct impact in recent times. Women in the coal and mineral industry have consistently excelled in the "Excellent in work, capable in home" movement, acting as pioneers and contributing to the sustainable development of the Group.
Thanks to these efforts, the Trade Union and the entire staff and workers of the industry were awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal by the President of Vietnam in 2002, the Second-Class Labor Medal in 2006, and the First-Class Labor Medal in 2011. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Coal and Mineral Workers' Union was honored to receive the Third-Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam for the second time.

In the future, the Group's growth model will harmoniously combine both breadth and depth, focusing on improving the quality of human resources and enhancing scientific and technological capabilities.
Chairman of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union, Le Thanh Xuan, stated: In the context of digital transformation, the new industrial revolution, and the Group's development strategy, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union is gradually undergoing strong reforms in its thinking and methods of operation, effectively fulfilling its role of representing, caring for, and protecting; becoming a force accompanying enterprises; proactively participating in building enterprises, developing high-quality human resources, and building a modern, professional workforce.
Furthermore, the TKV Trade Union is not only preserving existing traditional values but is also creating a new, modern, flexible, and more worker-friendly image as it embarks on its journey into a new era.
