On the evening of June 30th, in Hanoi, the Political Affairs Department ( Ministry of Public Security ), in coordination with relevant units, organized a special political and artistic program with the theme "DNA - The Journey to Reconnect the Source".
The program is a meaningful event to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs, spreading the spirit of the "500-Day Campaign" (implemented from March 15, 2026 to July 27, 2027) to search for, collect, and identify the remains of martyrs; honoring the efforts of the People's Army, the People's Police, veterans, and families in the moving journey of bringing the heroic martyrs back to their homeland.
Simultaneously, it is necessary to raise awareness and responsibility among all levels, sectors, organizations, and the entire society in providing information and data to support the search, collection, and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers.

According to the Organizing Committee, during the wars of resistance to defend the Fatherland and in carrying out international duties, more than 1.2 million cadres, soldiers, and civilians bravely sacrificed their lives. However, currently, there are still about 175,000 remains of martyrs that have not been found, and nearly 300,000 martyrs in cemeteries remain unidentified.
The "500 Days and Nights" campaign, which intensifies the search, collection, and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers, demonstrates the strong determination of the Party, the State, the entire political system, and all the people in implementing the "Gratitude and Repayment" policy, contributing to building a spiritual foundation for the future development of the nation.
Recently, the Ministry of Public Security has launched a campaign to collect DNA samples from relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified, to build, manage, and operate a "Genetic Bank for Relatives of Martyrs" whose information has not been identified; to analyze, store, and perform DNA matching… contributing to accelerating the "500 Days and Nights" campaign and building a national database for future use.
The art and political gala night "DNA - The Journey to Reconnect with the Source" serves as a powerful communication bridge to encourage and spread the spirit of this historic campaign.
Throughout the program, the audience was guided through three coherent and closely linked chapters: "The Race Against Time," "DNA - The Power of Connection," and "Commands from the Heart," which respectively depicted the hardships on the journey of discovery, the advancements of science , and the support of the entire political system in the work of showing gratitude and repaying kindness.
Through documentaries and interviews with representatives of the forces on duty and relatives of fallen soldiers, viewers gained a better understanding of the process of collecting biological samples, building a gene bank for relatives of fallen soldiers, DNA matching, as well as new policies being implemented to shorten the time to identify fallen soldiers whose names are still unknown.
The stories told on stage not only reflect the efforts of the People's Army, the People's Police, and scientists, but also portray the persistent waiting of countless families for more than half a century. Each DNA sample collected, each successful match, carries the hope of the day their loved ones can return to their homeland.

Interspersed between the main narratives were elaborately staged artistic performances, contributing to a wide range of emotions for the audience. From "Sacred Vietnam," "Letter to Mother," "I'm Still Waiting for You," "Love Song," "The Color of Red Flowers," to "We Are Police Officers" and "The Youth of the Ho Chi Minh Generation," each song evoked the sacrifices of previous generations, while simultaneously inspiring gratitude and responsibility in today's generation.
In particular, the presentation about the Ministry of Public Security's nationwide collection of DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers, and the establishment and operation of a gene bank for relatives of unidentified fallen soldiers, received considerable attention from the audience. This is expected to create an important data foundation, contributing to the faster identification of fallen soldiers in the future.
The program avoids a data-heavy storytelling approach, instead harmoniously blending documentary footage, interaction, and art. As a result, the message of gratitude, responsibility, and the power of science is conveyed in a relatable way, touching the emotions of the viewers.
Audience members participated in a Q&A session to learn about new developments: procedures, support policies from the Party and State, and new achievements in DNA testing technology…
Also at the program, representatives from the Ministry of Public Security and coordinating forces introduced their units and pledged to achieve the goals of the "500 Days and Nights" campaign, while presenting gifts to 5 families of fallen police officers and 5 families of fallen army soldiers.
The art performance contributed to spreading the spirit of the "500 Days and Nights" Campaign, affirming that every effort today is not only to restore the names of those who sacrificed, but also to extend the tradition of gratitude and preserve the Vietnamese people's moral principle of "Drinking water, remembering the source."
