The 2026 World Cup will complete the picture of 48 participating teams. |
The three host nations, Mexico, the USA, and Canada, are obviously included. Asia presents a vibrant picture with a series of strong representatives such as Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, Qatar, along with four prominent teams: Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Iraq. Notably, Uzbekistan and Jordan mark their first-ever World Cup appearances.
In Africa, the 10 spots go to both familiar and surprising names, including Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, South Africa, Ghana, DR Congo, and the phenomenon Cape Verde. Notably, Cape Verde also made history with its first appearance.
The CONCACAF region has identified two new contenders, Panama and Haiti, alongside the miraculous story of Curacao. They became the smallest team to qualify for the World Cup, with a population of just 150,000.
South America continues to assert its dominance with six prestigious representatives: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Paraguay. All of them secured their places early after a highly competitive CONMEBOL qualifying campaign.
Europe accounts for 16 spots, with 12 teams securing early qualification by finishing top of their qualifying rounds: Spain, France, England, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, and Scotland. Additionally, four teams – Czech Republic, Türkiye, Sweden, and Bosnia & Herzegovina – advanced through a highly dramatic and emotional play-off round.
New Zealand completed the 48-team tournament by becoming the sole representative from the Oceania Federation (OFC) to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Their journey to the tournament wasn't overly difficult. FIFA's first-ever direct qualification for the OFC region made it easy for the "All Whites" to secure their place.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 12th to July 19th in three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This will be the first World Cup to be the largest in history, with 48 participating teams.
