Manuel Ugarte could leave Manchester United after this season. |
Despite having already secured third place in the Premier League and a return to the Champions League next season, Manchester United entered the final matchday with much attention surrounding the future of their squad under manager Michael Carrick.
Previously, the club confirmed that Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia would leave the team on free transfers when their contracts expire next month. Casemiro is reportedly close to agreeing to join Inter Miami CF in MLS.
Besides the two players who are certain to leave, MU also faces a number of questions regarding the future of their squad. Sportbible reports that players such as Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot, Altay Bayindir and Lisandro Martínez all have uncertain futures at Old Trafford.
According to The Times , Manchester United are listening to offers for Zirkzee, Bayindir, and Ugarte, as the trio have not lived up to expectations. Meanwhile, the roles of players like Mount, Dalot, and Martinez for next season are still being reviewed.
The squad overhaul is seen as a necessary step as MU prepares to return to the Champions League. Competing on multiple fronts demands a deeper and higher-quality squad, while also reducing the inflated wage bill caused by many high-paid players who contribute little.
Conversely, Italian media reports indicate that MU has reached a verbal agreement with Atalanta to sign midfielder Ederson next summer.
