Previously, on May 5, 2026, during a sea patrol, Border Guard Squadron 1 inspected fishing vessel TG 91467 TS operating approximately 10 nautical miles west of Hon Khoai Island. Upon inspection, authorities discovered over 31,200 liters of diesel fuel of unknown origin on board. The captain confessed to purchasing the fuel from an unidentified vessel at sea to resell to other fishing vessels for illicit profit.
Individuals selling cosmetics of unknown origin were apprehended by the Tam Giang Tay Border Guard Station.
According to the Ca Mau Provincial Border Guard, from the beginning of 2026 to the present, the unit has detected and handled 97 cases involving 124 violations related to smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of goods, and illegal oil trading at sea. Seized items include over 31,200 liters of diesel fuel, 690 bags of smuggled cigarettes, over 15 tons of frozen seafood, nearly 24 tons of fertilizer, and many other goods; the total amount of fines is nearly 8 billion VND.
In the coming period, the Provincial Border Guard Command will continue to strengthen operational measures, review key routes and areas; maintain a permanent force and means at sea to promptly detect and handle violations. At the same time, it will strengthen coordination with the Police, Customs, Coast Guard, Fisheries Surveillance, and local authorities to effectively combat smuggling and trade fraud, preventing the formation of hotspots in the maritime border area.
