Seventy years have passed, and the affection of the people of North Vietnam, including the people of Thanh Hoa province, for their compatriots, cadres, soldiers, and students from South Vietnam who relocated to the North, once again affirms the truth that "North and South are one family," "Vietnam is one country, the Vietnamese people are one nation"...

On the evening of October 27th, in Sam Son City, Thanh Hoa province, a solemn ceremony was held to commemorate "70 years of welcoming compatriots, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South who relocated to the North" and to inaugurate the Memorial Area.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Member of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh, Member of the Political Bureau, Deputy Prime Minister; Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Vice President of the Republic; along with 2,700 delegates including officials, soldiers, people, and students from the South... attended the event.
In his opening speech, Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Doan Anh affirmed: This is an event of great historical significance, not only an opportunity for us to meet and reminisce about touching and affectionate memories in the North, but also an opportunity to be proud of a glorious period in the nation's history, to remember the spirit of national unity, the feeling of "North and South as one family," which can never be divided.

Seventy years ago, at that historic moment, Thanh Hoa had the honor of being the first place in the North to be entrusted by the Central Party Committee, the Government , and President Ho Chi Minh with the task of welcoming compatriots, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South who were relocating to the North.

On September 25, 1954, at the Lach Hoi - Sam Son port, the people of Thanh Hoa joyfully welcomed the first beloved sons and daughters of the South who had relocated to the North. In just nine months (from September 1954 to May 1955), Thanh Hoa province hosted 47,346 cadres and soldiers; 1,869 wounded and sick soldiers; 5,922 students; and 1,443 families of cadres from the South.

During that time, throughout Thanh Hoa province, a vibrant movement of fundraising and support for the people, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South took place; preparing many tons of food and supplies; providing tens of thousands of sets of clothes, blankets, and other necessary items; mountainous districts transported tens of thousands of bamboo, reeds, and timber day and night to build houses and shelters, helping the people, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South quickly stabilize their lives.

In response to the profound gratitude owed to the people of Thanh Hoa and the people of the North, many, after recovering from illness, studying, and training, enlisted in the army, fighting on battlefields across the country, contributing to the liberation of the South and the reunification of the nation. Many students from the South diligently studied, trained, and strived to become high-ranking leaders of the Party and the State…

To preserve images and artifacts from a glorious period in the nation's history, Thanh Hoa province decided to invest in a memorial project for the people, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South who relocated to the North, located in Quang Tien ward, Sam Son city. After nearly two years of construction, the project's components in area A have been completed, most notably the monument depicting the regrouping ship and the arch-shaped relief sculpture.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Member of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, and Head of the Central Propaganda Department, cordially extended his heartfelt greetings to the families and relatives of millions of compatriots and soldiers from both the North and South who contributed their blood, strength, and resources to the history of the Vietnamese revolution.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia affirmed: The event of welcoming cadres, soldiers, compatriots, and students from the South who gathered in the North has become a profound mark in the history of the nation, in the hearts of countless generations of compatriots and soldiers from both the South and the North; it is an invaluable lesson about "the will of the Party and the hearts of the people"; a shining symbol of the spirit of great unity and affirming the truth that "Vietnam is one country, the Vietnamese people are one nation".
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia also suggested that Thanh Hoa province, as well as other localities, should continue to do a good job of taking care of the material and spiritual lives of policy beneficiary families, relatives of cadres and soldiers from the South who relocated to the North; and families who made great contributions in nurturing compatriots, soldiers, and students from the South who relocated to the North.
