Runner-up of "The Voice Vietnam Global" changes stage name, reveals her idol is My Linh.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Runner-up of the 2023 Global Voice of Vietnam, Duc Thoa, shared that she has always considered singer My Linh as an artistic role model that she admires and learns from.

Formerly known by her stage name Cat Tien and the first runner-up in the 2023 Vietnam Global Singing Contest, Duc Thoa has now chosen to pursue a professional music career with a new direction.

No longer associated with contemporary folk music – the genre that helped her make her mark – Duc Thoa has switched to pop ballad, a genre she loves and feels "like herself" in on her career journey.

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper during the launch of her album "Rainy Notes in Hanoi ," Duc Thoa said that using her real name marks an important turning point in her career, reflecting her desire to build an image of a sincere artist, not relying on gimmicks or scandals.

"Although the name is a bit... masculine and quite unique, I really like it because it's a memory of my beloved father. My father gave me the name Duc Thoa, hoping that I would always live with a kind heart and good character. I want to keep that as a reminder to myself to always be a good person," she confided.

When asked about her inspiring artist, Duc Thoa readily shared: “I really love My Linh's voice. She is always full of energy and constantly learning to reinvent herself. That makes me admire her and want to learn from her.”

Duc Thoa also said that she was impressed that My Linh still practices vocal training every day, even though she already has a solid position in the music industry. "Her seriousness and dedication to self-improvement are what I always strive for in my career," Duc Thoa added.

Although not yet a household name in the Vietnamese music scene, Duc Thoa chooses a quiet but steadfast path in her career. Without fanfare or scandals, she consistently teaches music, practices vocal training, and sings with all the emotion of her heart.

The singer shared that she hopes audiences will discover her music in a lasting way, rather than seeking fleeting sensations. For Duc Thoa, sincerity is the long but steady path.

Having started her career as a music teacher, Duc Thoa said she always prioritizes honing her technique and emotional expression in music. "I want the audience to feel the sincerity in every lyric, and I hope my music will be a place they can turn to when they need empathy," the singer expressed.

With the album "Rainy Notes ," Duc Thoa not only marks the beginning of her professional singing career but also demonstrates her determination to pursue a serious and long-term musical path.

The album consists of 5 songs: "Rainy Notes," "Having to Let Go," "Love Only for You," "I Wait for Tomorrow," and "Afraid," exploring the theme of love with many different emotional nuances. "Each song in the album touches my emotions, reflecting my own romantic experiences, from first crushes and the joys of love to sadness and heartbreak," Duc Thoa shared.
