For many years, the public has known you by your stage name, Cat Tien. Why did you decide to change your stage name?

- I've been using the stage name Cat Tien for many years and have gained recognition. However, after winning first runner-up in the Global Vietnamese Singing Contest, I started paying more attention to digital music, hoping my works would be spread across online platforms. Many people advised me to use my birth name as my stage name because it relates to copyright issues and makes it easier for me to manage and market my digital music.

The name Duc Thoa sounds a bit masculine, but it has a special meaning to me. When my father named me this, he wanted to convey a message: A daughter named Thoa means that no matter what job she does, she must do it with her heart and virtue to become a decent person. When I decided to use my real name for my singing career, many friends worried that it would take more time for the audience to get used to it. But I believe that with hard work and effort, the audience will gradually become familiar with this name.

- As a professionally trained folk singer who also achieved success in the Vietnamese Voice Global competition with this genre, why did you choose to sing light music for your first album, "Rainy Notes"?

- The genre I was formally trained in is folk music because my voice suits it. In the recent competition, I won first runner-up thanks to my mash-up of two contemporary folk songs: "Túy âm" (composed by Xesi) and "Ăn trông nồi, ngồi trông hướng" (composed by Huỳnh Văn, Rum7).

Contemporary folk music allows me to showcase my technical skills, but light music is also a genre I enjoy. At my age, I want to sing songs that carry profound philosophical insights about life and love, expressed in a gentle, romantic, and heartfelt way. Therefore, for my debut album, I decided to choose the genre I love to introduce to the public.

So what's new in the album "Rainy Notes"?

- "Rainy Notes" consists of 5 songs composed by musician Le Huyen Trang and arranged and orchestrated by musician Pham Tuan Ngoc. The songs belong to various light music styles such as "Rainy Notes" (pop rock), "Letting Go" (R&B), "Love Only for You" (soul), "I Wait for Tomorrow" (ballad), and "Fear" (symphony).

The song selection was also a coincidence. When working with songwriter Le Huyen Trang, I felt as if the songs were written specifically for me – from the lyrics to the melody. Perhaps because we are both women, the emotions in her songs resonate with me in many ways. That's why I decided to collaborate with her to release an album with completely new songs. All five songs were released online on various online music platforms. This is also how I reach out to music lovers in a modern way.

- In today's saturated entertainment industry, many artists strive to "rekindle" their fame by participating in television programs. Do you intend to seek more opportunities to reach the public in this way?

- Recently, there have been many popular music-themed television programs such as "Brother Says Hi," "Brother Overcomes a Thousand Obstacles," "Beautiful Woman Riding the Waves," "Masked Singer," etc. These are excellent launching pads that help artists reach the public, boost their popularity, and promote the cultural industry through entertainment activities.

After the Vietnamese Global Singing Contest, I'm also trying to build a new image in music, perfecting my performance and songwriting skills to meet the increasingly demanding requirements from the audience. Each artist will have their own opportunities and decisions when participating in television programs to build an effective image. Sometimes, participating isn't about becoming more famous, but about spreading the positive values of music. In the future, I will look for a suitable program to participate in.

- Recently, many artists have created music products with cultural value, promoting local tourism and achieving widespread popularity. As someone from Central Vietnam, do you intend to create a music video to promote your hometown?

- I was born in Quang Tri - a land of sunshine and wind, yet full of pride and heroism. I am always proud of my hometown and grateful for the opportunities it has given me. In my upcoming plans, I intend to film a music video in Quang Tri and Hanoi - the place that nurtured my dream of becoming a singer. I hope to contribute to spreading the beautiful image of our country, especially the compassionate land of Central Vietnam.

- Thank you, Duc Thoa, for sharing!
