OCOP dried bananas: elevating the status of local specialties.
In Tran Van Thoi Commune, dried bananas are a traditional product deeply rooted in the lives of the local people. Thanks to participation in the OCOP program , the product not only meets food safety standards but also boasts improved packaging and labeling, gradually establishing its position in the market.
Having been involved in the business for over 30 years, Bay Hoang dried banana processing facility (Hamlet 10B) has successfully developed a dried Siamese banana product that meets OCOP 3-star standards, gaining popularity among consumers both within and outside the province. On average, the facility provides employment for about 20 workers daily; during peak Tet (Lunar New Year) season, this number increases to 30-35 people, working in the purchasing, processing, and packaging stages. The work is suitable for women and middle-aged workers, contributing to job creation and increased income for local residents.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thia, a worker at the facility, said: "Thanks to the stable job, especially during Tet (Lunar New Year), my husband and I can earn 400-500 thousand dong per day."
According to Ms. Nguyen Cam Loan, owner of Bay Hoang dried banana production facility, being recognized as a 3-star OCOP product is a significant turning point that helps expand the market for her product. “The Siamese bananas are carefully selected and dried using the correct techniques to preserve their natural sweetness and beautiful color. Thanks to achieving OCOP certification, the product has gained more customer trust. This Tet holiday, the facility sold over 30 tons of dried bananas.”
The entire Tran Van Thoi commune has 4 large-scale dried banana production facilities, which not only provide employment for local laborers but also increase the value of agricultural products and mitigate the problem of "bumper harvests leading to price drops".
“ The commune continues to encourage businesses to invest in machinery, improve quality, build OCOP brands, promote trade, and expand consumer markets ,” said Mr. Trinh Viet Khai, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tran Van Thoi Commune.
Diversify OCOP products and proactively secure supply sources.
Along with dried bananas, many other OCOP products are also accelerating production to serve the Tet market. In Tan Thuan commune, TA Trading & Service Co., Ltd. (Anh Kua brand) has proactively prepared its supply of goods since mid-2025.

Ms. Truong Ngoc Anh, the company director, said: “Compared to last year, the production volume prepared for this year's Tet season has increased by about 40-50%. We prioritize raw materials with clear origins and guaranteed quality.” Early preparation helps ensure a sufficient supply for both the domestic and export markets, while preserving the product's distinctive flavor. “Sour shrimp paste needs sufficient natural fermentation time to achieve the best taste, so it cannot be rushed.”
Notably, this Lunar New Year, the establishment is not offering pre-made gift combos, but instead selling individual products, allowing customers more flexibility in choosing according to their needs.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Nen, Chairwoman and Director of Tan Huy Hoang Cooperative ( Bac Lieu Ward), said: “The cooperative currently produces and sells about 12 regional specialty products. Participating in the OCOP program helps standardize processes, improve quality and design. Tet (Lunar New Year) is an important time to promote the brand and expand the market.”
From traditional products to processed seafood, local OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities are gradually shifting from small-scale production to a market-oriented mindset. With proper investment, agricultural products not only "sell" but also "sell well" and "sell sustainably," creating a foundation for stable and sustainable rural economic development.
