AFC honors Dinh Bac

On the afternoon of January 30th, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that Nguyen Dinh Bac was the winner of the "Most Impressive Player" award at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

The poll, organized by the AFC on its official website, began on January 27th, featuring 10 outstanding candidates. Among them, Ryunosuke Sato is considered one of the strongest contenders. The Japanese player was previously chosen by the AFC as the best player of the tournament.

The remaining seven names on the nomination list include Ali Azaizeh (Jordan), Leonardo Shahin (Lebanon), Rakan Al Ghamdi (Saudi Arabia), Mathias Macallister (Australia), Ali Al Memari (UAE), Kim Do Hyun (South Korea), and Sardorbek Bakhromov (Uzbekistan).

The voting process was quite dramatic. At one point, Li Hao surged ahead with over 90% of the votes, thanks to his large fan base. However, since the evening of January 29th, the situation has reversed. Dinh Bac accelerated strongly and quickly reclaimed the top spot.

When the voting closed at 4:00 PM on January 30th, Dinh Bac won an overwhelming majority of votes, reaching over 86%. Li Hao came in second with 10% of the votes, while Azaizeh was in third place with approximately 2.5%.

The award partly reflects the fans' recognition of his outstanding contributions. At the U23 Asian Championship, Dinh Bac scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists, earning him the title of top scorer.

Notably, Dinh Bac is currently leading another AFC poll for "Most Impressive Goal of the Tournament," with his spectacular backward header against UAE U23 in the quarter-finals.
