US top seed Carlos Alcaraz defeated Gael Monfils 6-2, 6-4 to keep his hopes alive of winning a double Masters 1000 title in the US.
The match ended after 75 minutes, with Alcaraz successfully converting four break points. Monfils could have lost faster in the second set, but still clung to a chance by winning the only service game of the match. However, the Frenchman then failed to score any points in his younger opponent's final service game.

The 17-year age gap between Monfils and his opponent was a barrier for him. The veteran player often struggled to keep up with the fast shots. He also had difficulty dealing with Alcaraz's drop shots.
Alcaraz advanced to the fourth round to face Lorenzo Musetti, who defeated Ben Shelton 6-4, 7-5. He now has the opportunity to win the "Sunshine Double" on American soil, a feat only seven others have achieved. Last year, Alcaraz won the BNP Paribas Open but lost in the semi-finals of the Miami Open.
"Winning Indian Wells and Miami is a big dream that I haven't thought about yet," Alcaraz said. "Right now I'm just focused on the match ahead. Today was an exciting match against Monfils. He's always a very energetic and free-flowing player."
Grigor Dimitrov and Hubert Hurkacz also advanced to the fourth round. While Dimitrov lost only one game to Yannick Hanfmann, Hurkacz had to play a grueling three-set match against Sebastian Korda. Another fourth-round match that attracted attention was Alexander Zverev's clash with Karen Khachanov.
Alex de Minaur continues to impress with his 19th win of the season, making him the most-won player on the ATP Tour so far in 2024. The Australian talent defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6, 6-4 and will face the surprise contender Fabian Marozsan in the fourth round. Marozsan recently caused an upset by beating Holger Rune and Alexei Popyrin in the last two rounds.
