Heartwarming moments for impoverished patients during Tet (Lunar New Year).

Việt NamViệt Nam07/02/2024

Every year, during the Lunar New Year season, healthcare facilities in the province intensify their efforts to promote and mobilize social resources, organizing numerous activities to give gifts and provide support during Tet for patients in difficult circumstances who are receiving treatment at healthcare facilities.

Receiving a gift from Miss Universe Vietnam Bui Thi Xuan Hanh, Ms. Phan Thi Nga (Khanh Phu commune, Yen Khanh district), mother of patient Nguyen Phan Tra My, who is being treated at the Emergency Department of the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, was so moved that she was speechless.

Ms. Nga shared: "My husband and I have three children, and two of them are ill: our eldest, Tra My, 12 years old, has spastic cerebral palsy and stage 3 respiratory failure, so she spends more time in the hospital than at home. Our third child has intellectual disability, is deaf and mute, and only our second child, a son, is normal. Given these circumstances, only my husband works as a factory worker and manages all the household expenses. Ms. Nga has to stay home to care for the children, going back and forth between the hospital and home whenever our eldest daughter's condition worsens."

Ms. Nga shared: "Understanding my family's situation, everyone from the local authorities to the hospital has shown concern, visited, and offered encouragement. Every Tet holiday, my family receives heartfelt gifts from kind-hearted individuals and organizations, making us feel cared for, supported, and accompanied by many compassionate hearts on this arduous journey of caring for and treating my child's illness..."

Comrade Nguyen Tien Thao, Head of the Social Work Department of the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, said: Along with performing the task of medical examination and treatment, the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital always pays attention to and promotes charitable and humanitarian work to organizations and individuals to help poor patients and patients with difficult circumstances, with the Social Work Department being the core activity.

During the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon, the Social Work Department appealed to philanthropists, organizations, and individuals to share material and spiritual support with patients suffering from serious illnesses or those in difficult circumstances, helping them to focus on their treatment. 70 gift packages worth 50 million VND were distributed by organizations and individuals to patients in difficult circumstances and those with serious illnesses receiving treatment at the hospital.

In addition, the hospital continues to provide meal allowances for inpatients during the three days of the Lunar New Year holiday at a rate of 50,000 VND per person per day. This ensures that hospital staff and patients can celebrate the Lunar New Year at the hospital in a safe and warm atmosphere.

Leaders of the Social Policy Bank branch in the province presented gifts to patients with difficult circumstances who are receiving treatment at the Provincial General Hospital.

At the Provincial General Hospital, patients with difficult circumstances and serious illnesses who are receiving treatment during the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon have been receiving much attention and love from kind-hearted people inside and outside the province.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bien (from Me town, Gia Vien district) is one of hundreds of patients being treated at the Provincial General Hospital who received gifts from the Provincial Social Policy Bank. Upon receiving the Tet gift, Ms. Bien emotionally shared: "The Lunar New Year is approaching, and I still have to stay in the hospital for treatment in the Internal Medicine-Respiratory Department. My family's situation is already difficult, and with someone sick like me, the difficulties are compounded. Receiving this gift from the Provincial Social Policy Bank helps me have more funds to cover food expenses during my treatment. I also feel warmer during Tet in the hospital because of the affection, care, and sharing from so many kind hearts…"

According to statistics from the Nursing and Social Work Department of the Provincial General Hospital, many organizations and individuals visited and presented Tet gifts to patients, including: the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province giving gifts to 60 poor patients with a total of 180 million VND; Vietnam Social Insurance and the Provincial Social Insurance giving 20 gift packages worth a total of 10 million VND; the Provincial Red Cross Society and businesses and philanthropists giving 200 gift packages, each containing 100,000 VND in cash and milk; Venerable Thich Minh Dong of Non Nuoc Pagoda and the Buddhist Association giving 130 gift packages, each worth 500,000 VND; the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association giving 30 gift packages, each worth 800,000 VND, including 500,000 VND in cash and gifts; the Provincial branch of the Social Policy Bank giving 20 gift packages, each worth 1 million VND…

Along with gifts from charitable organizations and individuals, the Provincial General Hospital organized cash support for patients who had to stay in the ward for three days during Tet, with a support level of 50,000 VND/person/day; ensuring meals for patients without family support…

On the occasion of the New Year 2024 (from December 29, 2023 to January 15, 2024), the Ninh Binh Provincial Red Cross Society, in coordination with philanthropists, organized the program "Giving Love to Patients, Welcoming the New Year 2024" at several hospitals and medical centers in the province, such as: the Provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital, the Provincial General Hospital; the Provincial Eye Hospital; and the medical centers of Gia Vien, Hoa Lu, and Nho Quan districts...

Through this program, gifts were given to more than 1,000 patients receiving treatment at hospitals and medical centers. These gifts, given to patients in the early days of the new year, are the most practical and meaningful encouragement from philanthropists and Red Cross branches in the province, helping patients to be more optimistic and effectively carry out their treatment so they can soon return home to celebrate a warm and joyful Tet holiday with their families.

The support from society and the community for patients in difficult circumstances and those with serious illnesses receiving treatment in hospitals during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon has helped alleviate their physical and mental suffering, encouraged them to fight and overcome their illnesses, and multiplied the beautiful acts of kindness from benevolent hearts in life.
