Music 'heals' the soul.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, many people often seek ways to soothe their souls. Besides traditional therapies, music serves as a kind of spiritual "medicine," evoking positive energy.

Thanks to music , Đoàn Cát Tường (Ward 3, Tân An City) has become more outgoing and confident.

A "spiritual remedy" to soothe sadness.

Music, with its harmonious blend of instrumental music and lyrics, acts as a spiritual "medicine," soothing sadness, igniting hope, and connecting kindred spirits . Music also provides moments of relaxation after tiring work, study, or other strenuous activities.

As a teacher with many years of experience teaching music, Ms. Luong Thi Thanh Huong (Ward 4, Tan An City, Long An Province) always believes that "music has the mission of healing the soul." For children with autism, depression, etc., Ms. Huong often supports them as companions, guiding them according to their level. Thanks to her unique teaching methods, her students develop a good appreciation for music and gradually become more open and sociable, including Doan Cat Tuong (Ward 3, Tan An City).

Ms. Ton Thi Thanh Thuy, Cat Tuong's mother, vividly remembers the days when her daughter was withdrawn, shy, and rarely interacted with those around her. Fearing her daughter might become depressed, she decided to enroll her in swimming lessons, but without positive results . In her search for a way to help her daughter develop more comprehensively, Ms. Thuy stumbled upon scientific studies on the positive impact of music on children's intellectual and emotional development. Therefore, she enrolled Cat Tuong in piano lessons.

Initially, Cat Tuong received one-on-one lessons with her teacher in a private room, with limited interaction with other students. After three years, she revealed her musical talent and found joy in playing the piano. From a girl who avoided eye contact, Cat Tuong became more confident in communication and self-expression. Thanks to her ear for music and rhythm, her teachers entrusted her with important roles in the school's performing arts programs.

Sharing her thoughts on her child's transformation, Ms. Thuy said: "Before, my child wouldn't talk to anyone and would just stay in her room when she got home. There were times I feared she might be depressed or have anxiety disorders ... but since being exposed to music, she has become more lively and confident. Now, she can perform in school events and tell stories about President Ho Chi Minh in front of the whole school."

Besides the melodious tunes of musical instruments, empathetic and sharing lyrics are also an effective healing therapy. As a young musician with many widely accepted charitable compositions such as "Friend, Please Give" and "My Heart Sings," musician Pham Ha believes: "Music is not only art but also a 'bridge' between hearts. Every song I write, especially those with a spirit of sharing, stems from genuine emotions about the difficult lives of others. Through music, listeners not only find empathy and alleviate sadness but also spread love and kindness to the community."

Connecting the community and spreading positive values.

Mr. Phan Nguyen Trong Nhan (Phuoc Ly commune, Can Giuoc district) is passionate about playing the zither. For him, music is an effective therapy for healing the soul.

A graduate of the Traditional Instrumental Performance major at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, Phan Nguyen Trong Nhan (Phuoc Ly commune, Can Giuoc district) has a passion for traditional Vietnamese musical instruments, especially the bầu lute. "My grandfather was my biggest inspiration. He used to play the violin and often performed traditional Southern Vietnamese music," Nhan shared.

But tragedy struck in 2020 when Nhân's grandfather passed away. The immense loss left the young man disoriented, withdrawn, and almost giving up. Memories of family evenings spent together, accompanied by his grandfather's warm violin playing and his kind teachings, were reduced to slow, sad film reels playing in his mind.

During those sorrowful days, the power of music pulled him back to life. He began listening to old songs again, learning about healing sound waves, vibrational frequencies capable of soothing the soul such as 174Hz, 285Hz, etc.

Thanks to music, he clearly felt a positive transformation in his spirit, which improved his health and reduced anxiety and insomnia. Not only did he find healing, but Mr. Nhân also spread positive energy to the community by teaching music and sharing his love of music with young people, especially those with mental health issues.

Mr. Le Anh Khoi (Tan Tru town, Tan Tru district) is passionate about researching traditional Southern Vietnamese folk music.

Sharing the same sentiment as Mr. Nhân, Mr. Lê Anh Khôi (Tân Trụ town, Tân Trụ district) also wishes to connect the community through music. Instead of expressing himself through lyrics, singing, or melodious instrumental music, Mr. Khôi dedicates his efforts to researching traditional Vietnamese folk music, exploring the layers of culture hidden within the melodies.

As a member of the Southern Melodies Club since 2018, he has had the opportunity to learn from seasoned artisans, access audio materials, and valuable records on the history and techniques of traditional Southern Vietnamese folk music. Immersing himself in this traditional art space, listening to stories told through sound, and learning about the cultural life and soul of the people of Southern Vietnam through each melody has helped his spirit become more relaxed and peaceful.

In addition, both Mr. Nhan and Mr. Khoi actively participate in workshops on healing music and visit nursing homes to interact with elderly artists. Each time they visit, the two men and their friends bring along music, songs, and beloved melodies to share, encourage, and uplift the spirits of the elderly, helping them to live happier and healthier lives.

In today's context, music is increasingly proving its role in healing and connecting people. From reducing stress and anxiety to evoking beautiful memories and fostering human connection, music is truly a natural, safe, and effective form of therapy.
