According to India Today , the K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) uses solid fuel and has a target range of 3,500 km.
Despite extensive media coverage, the Ministry of Defence , the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and the Indian Navy have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
However, India issued a Notice to Pilots (NOTAM) and publicly warned of a medium-range missile test along a 3,490 km flight corridor from November 27-30.
According to ANI news agency, the results of the test are being analyzed by defense officials.
In recent years, the K-4 has only been tested from submerged buoys. This is the first time India has tested the K-4 missile from the INS Arighaat, which was commissioned into the Indian Navy in August.
INS Arighaat 6,000 tonnes is India's third and newest nuclear-powered submarine, with a displacement of 7,000 tonnes, and is expected to be commissioned next year.
Last month, India's Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the construction of two more nuclear-powered attack submarines to bolster New Delhi's presence in the Indo- Pacific .
