According to Mr. Le Huu Toan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the province is focusing on expanding the model of high-quality, low-emission rice production to achieve the registered area under the 1 million hectare project. Specifically, in the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop season, the total area participating in the project in the province will reach 159,360 hectares (equivalent to nearly 87% of the plan for the whole year 2026), with a harvest of over 1.2 million tons of commercial rice meeting the standards.

During the 2024-2025 period, An Giang province developed 150,150 hectares of high-quality rice meeting low-emission standards, exceeding the set plan (reaching 104%), yielding over 900,000 tons. Of this, nearly 43,450 hectares fully met all 5 criteria, while the remaining area met 4 criteria of the Project.
The synchronized application of advanced farming practices has yielded clear results. According to evaluations from 89 demonstration models on fields participating in the 1 million hectare project in the province, emissions decreased by 7.5-8.1 tons of CO₂ equivalent per hectare, and average profits increased by over 9.3 million VND per hectare. These results show that reduced-emission rice production not only contributes to environmental protection but also creates additional economic value for rice farmers.
In the coming period, An Giang province will continue to reorganize production towards sustainability, saving irrigation water, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthening value chain linkages, gradually improving the ability to adapt to climate change in agricultural production development.
