Ancelotti confirmed to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. |
"I will become Brazil's head coach from May 26. Everything in life has to stop. I have had the most wonderful time here," Ancelotti opened the press conference. "I am still Real Madrid's coach and I want to end the journey in the best way possible, enjoying the last days of the team I love."
Ancelotti leaves as Real's most decorated coach with 15 trophies. He looks back on the six years with gratitude: "We won a lot and those memories will stay with me for the rest of my life. I have never had any conflict with the club, and never will."
When asked about his current feelings, Ancelotti gently replied: "Football and life are both adventures and every adventure has a beginning and an end. I always knew this day would come. And now, I just want to end it seriously and with dignity."
Ancelotti returned to Los Blancos in 2021, helping the club win two more La Liga titles, as well as lifting the Champions League trophy three times over two spells. However, Real have been in decline this season. The club was eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals by Arsenal, lost to Barca in the Copa del Rey final, and is currently seven points behind its arch-rivals in the La Liga race.
At the same time, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) completed the agreement to appoint coach Ancelotti. He became the first foreign coach in history to lead the team. Ancelotti signed a contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Ancelotti's debut with Brazil is scheduled for June 6, against Ecuador in the South American World Cup qualifiers.
