Italian fans line up to receive Canada national team jerseys. |
Italian fans were shocked when their team missed out on the World Cup for the third consecutive time, following their defeat to Bosnia & Herzegovina on April 1st. The aftermath of this painful loss not only shook Italian football internally but also created a striking image in Toronto.
Immediately after the "Azzurri" were eliminated, the Football Association of Canada launched a special campaign, calling on the Italian-Canadian community to switch their support to the host nation's team.
The Canadian Football Association's message was "Don't wait another four years." In front of Cafe Diplomatico, fans were invited to bring their Italy jerseys in exchange for free Canada jerseys.
The event attracted a large crowd, with long lines of fans waiting to receive their new jerseys. Videos circulating on social media show a lively atmosphere. The truck, printed with the Canadian national team jersey and the slogan "We need your passion, this time wear red," became the center of attention.
Despite being called a "shirt exchange," the organizers didn't actually collect the Italian shirts; they simply distributed Canadian shirts for free to create a ripple effect.
The Canadian national team is eagerly preparing for the biggest football event on the planet as the host nation. Coach Jesse Marsch's team will kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign against Bosnia, before facing Qatar and Switzerland in succession.
