The passenger terminal is considered the "heart" of the Long Thanh International Airport (Long Thanh Airport) construction project, phase 1. Commenced on August 31, 2023, this is the largest and most technically complex contract package, representing the critical path of the entire phase 1 of the Long Thanh airport construction project.
The contract includes the construction of the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal, consisting of one ground floor and three upper floors, with a total floor area of approximately 376,000 m² , and a contract value of 36,000 billion VND.
Currently, the massive steel dome is complete, with its clear glass cladding, giving it a modern appearance. Inside the station, workers are finishing every detail, from tiling, ceilings, and glass walls to installing baggage conveyors, escalators, and elevators.
According to the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, the passenger terminal construction package currently has approximately 3,000 officials, engineers, and workers continuously working on the construction site.
The project is entering its final stages, with the construction unit proceeding with the installation of equipment primarily imported from abroad; approximately 95% of the equipment has been delivered to the construction site, and about 80% has been installed.
According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the entire Component 3 of the Long Thanh Airport Project comprises 15 main construction packages, of which 3 have been completed, and the remaining 12 are being implemented simultaneously, with the total volume reaching over 76% of the contract value.
However, the project is currently facing significant difficulties due to a shortage of manpower and the impact of rising fuel prices. According to ACV, the project's construction workforce is insufficient, reaching only 60% of the required number. Specifically, to achieve the set goals, the entire construction site needs approximately 14,000 people, but currently only over 8,400 people are working there.
