Missile pressure
According to Tasnim News Agency, in a statement issued on June 5, the Iranian Navy said that, as part of ongoing operations to counter maritime aggression, harassment, and the seizure of US Navy commercial vessels and oil tankers, Iranian forces fired warning shots with Qadir missiles and newly developed Martyr Dana attack drones.
According to the announcement, following the operation, the US destroyers DDG-103 and DDG-87, which had violated Omani territorial waters, left the Sea of Oman and headed toward the Indian Ocean.
The Iranian Navy added that, as a result of this operation and similar actions taken in recent days, not only the US destroyers operating in the George W. Bush Carrier Strike Group and the US Navy command center, but also the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli were forced to leave the Sea of Oman.
The Iranian Navy's Command and Control Center emphasized the need to force "the American enemy" to end its maritime theft and hostile activities.
"Although the distance between enemy ships and the range of missiles is increasing, if necessary, the Iranian Navy will use missiles with a longer range," the Iranian Navy warned.
The US must take responsibility.
Immediately following the US Navy's aggressive actions against Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the US would be held responsible for the consequences of its aggression against Iran.
The Russian diplomat emphasized that any agreement between the US and Iran must take into account the interests of Iran and its neighbors.
According to Lavrov, Russia supports efforts to maintain dialogue between the US and Iran, adding that continued negotiations are necessary and should aim for a solution that respects regional interests and excludes military measures.
Speaking about the ongoing diplomatic efforts, Lavrov said that Russia strongly supports contacts between the United States and Iran.
"Of course, the US is primarily responsible, but we fully support the ongoing dialogue between the US and Iran through the mediation of Pakistan. Saudi Arabia and Egypt are also trying to provide support," Foreign Minister Lavrov said.
"It is very important that this dialogue continues. And any agreement reached must take into account the interests of Iran and its neighbors," he said.
Turning to regional security issues, Lavrov said Russia supports increased cooperation between the Gulf Arab states and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Lavrov said: "We consider it important to promote dialogue between the Arab monarchies and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we are ready to contribute to this."
He emphasized that Russia had recently updated its security concept for the Persian Gulf and sent it to six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and to Iran.
"We will encourage dialogue. Of course, first and foremost, all military means must be completely ruled out in the future. Aggressive actions by US warships must not be repeated," the Russian minister said.
