Typhoon No. 5, internationally named Kajiki, formed from a tropical depression over the eastern part of the North East Sea region on the morning of August 23.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, at 7:00 AM this morning, the storm's center was located at approximately 17.2 degrees North latitude and 116.6 degrees East longitude, about 480km east-northeast of the Hoang Sa archipelago. The strongest winds near the storm's center reached level 8, with gusts up to level 10, and it was moving west-northwest at a speed of about 25 km/hour.
Forecasts for the next 24 hours indicate the storm will continue to move west-northwest at a speed of 20-25 km/hour and intensify. By the morning of August 24th, the storm's center will be near the Hoang Sa archipelago, with wind speeds increasing to level 10-11, gusting to level 14.
On August 25th, the storm entered the sea area from Thanh Hoa to Hue with its strongest intensity at level 11-12, gusting to level 15. By August 26th, the storm gradually weakened into a tropical depression over land in the central Laos region.

The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting warns that at sea, in the northern South China Sea, including the Hoang Sa archipelago, there will be strong winds of force 8-9, reaching force 10-11 in the area near the storm's center, with gusts up to force 14, waves 4-6 meters high, and extremely rough seas.
From tomorrow afternoon, August 24th, the sea area from Thanh Hoa to Hue , including Con Co and Hon Ngu islands, will experience increasingly strong winds of force 6-8, then increasing to force 9-10, with winds near the storm's center reaching force 11-12, gusting to force 15, and waves 6-8 meters high.
From the night of August 24th, the northern part of the Gulf of Tonkin, including Bach Long Vi, will experience strong winds of force 6-7, gusting to force 9, with waves 2-3 meters high.
On land, from the night of August 24th, the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will experience strong winds of force 7-9, with winds near the storm's center reaching force 10-12, gusting to force 14. Widespread heavy rain will occur from the night of August 24th to the end of August 26th, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 100-150mm, and locally exceeding 250mm; specifically in Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, rainfall will reach 150-300mm, with the highest amounts possibly exceeding 600mm. There is a risk of extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 200mm in 3 hours, leading to flash floods, landslides, and inundation.
Storm surges in coastal areas of Thanh Hoa and Quang Tri provinces could reach 0.5-1 meter, causing water levels at Sam Son, Hon Ngu, Vung Ang, and Cua Gianh to exceed 3 meters.
Director of the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, Mai Van Khiem, warned that the weather at sea and on the coastal areas during the storm is extremely dangerous, and all vehicles and structures in the danger zone, from tourist boats and cargo ships to aquaculture cages, are unsafe.
