Apple is preparing a significant upgrade for its next low-cost phone, the iPhone 17e, which the company is expected to launch in early 2026. According to a report from analyst Jeff Pu, this product will be equipped with an 18 MP Center Stage front camera, similar to the recently launched high-end iPhone 17 series.

The new camera is designed with a special square sensor that allows users to take photos or record videos in portrait and landscape modes without having to rotate their wrists. The "Center Stage" feature automatically zooms and rotates to keep users in the frame during video calls for a better user experience.
The change comes as Apple adjusts its product release schedule. Instead of releasing everything in September, it is shifting some models to winter and spring, and the iPhone 17e fits perfectly into this new model.
The iPhone 17e's front camera will change the game
Notably, equipping the iPhone 17e with a new 18 MP sensor marks a big step forward in Apple's strategy. Combined with the rumored A19 chip (found on the standard iPhone 17), Apple is narrowing the gap between low-cost and high-end phones.

The product still has no upgrade in the rear camera, meaning it still uses a single camera instead of dual like the regular iPhone 17.

For those who want quality selfies and video calls without spending over $800, the iPhone 17e is a great option. The Center Stage camera really enhances the user experience, allowing for more natural-sounding FaceTime calls and ensuring everyone gets in group selfies.
While it may still retain the single camera on the back and not have a 120Hz display to save costs, Apple seems determined to bring a lot of value to the iPhone 17e, helping to redefine what we expect from a "cheap" iPhone.
